Windows 10: Windows 10 slow to recognize USB devices

On pre-installed Windows 10 Professional, brand new computers.


These computers are getting slow to recognize USB devices, after several 1000's of different USB drive insertions. It takes upward of a minute to recognize any new inserted drives. This is both under WMI access and in explorer when opening "My PC".


So far, the only cause I can think of would be the registry filling up. If I open up regedit and attempt to cleanse removed USB sticks under LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR,it gives a couple errors regardless of admin mode, so I can't seem to really verify if that's actually the issue. I'm loathe to actually try and mess around in the registry with scripts without knowing for sure whether this is the issue. Note: Loading up the proper sub-groups of the registry takes several seconds as well.


Is there a way to let Windows itself clean up registry entries of removed USB sticks ? Or is there some other part of windows that slows down terribly after mass insertion/removal ?

Some USB Devices not recognized in Windows 10

Hi have Windows 10 Pro insider preview 10532 64bit Pro Intel i7 desktop PC.

I have multiple USB devices connected, USB 3 & 2. The USB HDD is working however my Samsung phone and kindle are no longer being recognized. The steps followed so far:

• Uninstalled all USB devices in device manager including controllers
• Flashed BIOS to latest version
• Updated USB drivers for the devices from manufacturers sites
• Tried new USB cables

Please note: both devices are recognized by my Windows 10 Lenovo laptop.

I really don't want to fresh install, please suggest any diagnostics I can try.

USB device not recognized spam

You may receive this error if one of your USB connected devices is not properly recognized by the system. Let's try the troubleshooting steps provided by

In addition, we suggest that you turn off the notifications from the USB by following these steps:

• Open Settings by typing "settings" in Cortana's search box.
• Click on Devices.
• Locate USB and toggle the switch to Off.

USB Device Not Recognized in Windows

We suggest that you disable Remote Differential Compression and see if it helps speed up the transfer rate.

To do that ,please follow these steps:

• Press Windows key + W and type “turn windows features on”.
• Select Turn Windows features on or off.
• Uncheck the box for Remote Differential Compression and click
  OK.
• Restart the computer then check.
