    Windows 10 sluggish response

    Hi,

I have a major issue with my system running Win 10.

The system had been upgraded from Win 7 Pro to Win 10. I noticed that it seemed to be taking a long time to boot > 20 mins. I tried running Ashampoo Optimizer and Chk=eck Disk the HDD. There was a short term benefit, then the system has gradually slowed down even more. I have since upgraded Win 10 to the latest release.

My observations of the system's performance:

1 Sluggish response time. Click on an application, the HDD runs at 100%, the app will eventually run. Sometimes the mouse won't respond.

2 The task manager takes a while to launch but once running, it is quite smooth.

3 I noticed that there seemed to be a lot of disk I/o associated with wbengine. I suspended this task and the performance did improve, but still had issues when running other apps.

4I can't connect to the internet. If I click on Edge, the HDD hits 100% and the page times-out. I did succeed once!

5 I shutdown the system one evening and it was still shutting down the following morning. I only witnessed this once. I was forced to power down and restart. The system took the best part of an hour to get fully running. There was about >20-30 mins before I could log-in then a similar period whilst it continued loading, putting blank icons on the screen then filling these icons with the proper icon.

6 I can't run troubleshooter. It displays "An error occurred while troubleshooting. A problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting"

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
