    Windows 10 SSD Installation - Screen flickering and monitor crash


    Hello! I just built a new PC and have installed Windows 10 to an SSD. Immediately after installation, Windows continues to work as normal, but after a couple minutes, the display crashes - it flickers between black, the blue monitor sleep screen, and a flash of a garbled version of what should be displayed. I installed Windows once, and formatted this SSD and reinstalled Windows to try again, but it continues to happen. For reference, I also installed Windows on an HDD also included in the system and it boots without issue, and continues to function without the problem happening.


    During my original installation of Windows, I updated the GPU drivers before this issue was triggered, so I suspected it was that originally, however when I formatted the SSD and reinstalled, no drivers were updated, so I don't believe that is the issue. Would windows preferences and drivers be retained on the SSD following formatting?

    Screen flickering in Windows 10 safe mode

    I haven't made any changes on my device. This screen flickering is only happening in Safe Mode.

    I did a clean install of windows 7 and i forgot to install Direct X its probably that, and i did a DDU and installed the latest drivers. But the black flickering screen doesnt go away after starting windows, i dont have any problems with the old GPU with the flickering screen and also on my friends PC the new GPU worked just fine no crashes or black screen.

    Screen flickering can be caused by hardware or application issue.

    • Is the issue only happening in Safe Mode?
    • Have you made any changes on your device prior to the issue?
