Windows 10 start and system sounds

I've read several posts about the details of windows 10 start, but they don't answer my particular interest, which is when is the PC actually started: a going concern ready for app usage, and the meaning of windows sounds during the start and/or log-in process.

How I came to this: I've noticed some irregular operation of a video editor program that seems to depend on how the PC starts. One feature specifically as an add-in user icon after the application starts- that add-in icon is a check for updates - and either present and usable or not present, but in the latter case the application seems to be otherwise unaffected.

Usage: compared to windows 7, windows 10 starts "crazy fast" to quote an un-named MS source but none of the publications or google searches will say how long that should take or when it is started - some indication of that - and the system can be used. And I've certainly noticed it's much faster, and I can appreciate that hardware characteristics cpu clock rate will vary start times. But just how fast I am trying to use it may be interfering with the start and be what is causing the irregular operation I noted above.

What I've noted lately: on start, when the lock screen appears there seems to be 2 stages - after 5 sec annotations on parts of the lock screen image appear, and after about a further 6-8 sec there is a sound chime from the machine. The OS installation uses the default sounds, and as best I can determine that sound chime is a system notification sound.

I was for some time mostly starting my log-in process just after the lock screen annotations appeared: and that worked fine, but this seems to be the case where the icon mentioned does not appear when the relevant program is started. Lately - having noticed a correlation between the system sound and the correct operation of the program icon - I've been waiting the extra 6-8 sec for the chime, and then starting my log-in. And when I've done that - a few days only at this stage but it's been solid for that time - the related program and it's updates icon are working as expected.

    So,

    - what is the 'official' indication that windows 10 has started properly? and

    - what is the meaning of that chime in the start process?

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
