Windows 10: Windows 10 Start Bar Not Loading Icons/Unresponsive

I have had this issue for a while now. What is happening is that when I boot up and log in, my desktop loads but the start bar has none of my icons loading in it. If I mouse over the start bar it just shows a spinning wheel.


I have since found the solution to fixing the problem which is to hit CTRL + ALT + DELETE to launch the task manager, run CMD with administrative access, and run the following:


sfc /scannow

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth


The first command finishes with the issue not resolve and the second command fixes it always around 60% complete.


The thing is that this issue is persistent and I have noticed that it only happens when we switch profiles. For example: If my wife was logged in and everything was working great for her then the next time I boot my computer and she logs in she is fine but if I use my profile, I must apply the fix above because the problem shows itself again. From then forward, I am fine until the next time she uses her profile and the cycle starts over.


I noticed in the event viewer that the problem seems to be tied to explorer.exe crashing. Before running the two commands above I tried restarting the windows explorer process but this does not fix the problem.


I updated all my drivers and just recently nuked my profile and recreated. I have not done this to my wife's profile yet she uses that computer more than I do but I wanted to know if there is anything else I should try.


Also not sure if it helps but my profile color I have set is green. I noticed if my wife logs in after me when we hit CTRL + ALT + DELETE the screen is green instead of her profile color of purple. So I suspect it is "holding" on to my profile which is the problem. I just have no idea how to fix it and searching online is proving to not be successful.

Windows task bar and start icon unresponsive after recent update? How to rectify?

After this update today (16 April 2016) the windows start icon and other notification icons on task bar relating to Windows 10 is unresponsive? What can be done to rectify?

Hi, tried as you suggest. It starts and says Checking application registration... and the green progress bar just goes on and on (let it run for over two hours) and never gets to the next step. Any other suggestions?

 

No Icons visible in task bar, Win 10

As you are facing issues with icons in the Task bar after November update, do let us know the following:

• Is this issue confined only with icons in the Task bar?
• What happens when you try to click on those icons?
• What exactly do you mean by: "they are there but not visible"?

Method 1: If you are referring to showing up of different icons in Task in System tray, I suggest you to try the below and check if it helps.

• Press Windows key from the Keyboard, type
  Turn system icons On or Off and select it.
• Try to turn on the icons that are visible.

Method 2:

Step 1: If not, I suggest you to place the computer in safe mode and check if the icons are visible to access.

If the issue still persists,

Step 2: This issue might have occurred due to corrupted or missing system files after the update. I suggest you to place the computer in normal mode and try to perform SFC scan.

Steps: Place the computer in normal mode.

• Press Windows + R keys to open
  Run command.
• Type msconfig and press
  Enter.
• In the System Configuration
  window, click on General tab.
• Select Start-up selection as Normal startup, click on Apply and Ok.
• Follow onscreen instructions.

Perform SFC scan, System File Checkeris a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

Follow the below steps:

• Right click on the Start button, click on
  Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type “sfc /scannow” without the quotes and hit
  Enter.
• After the scan, restart the computer and check for the issue.
