    Hi guys

since installing windows 10 my start button is not working. When I go on to it, it says critical error. I tried repairing it with powershell and it was okay for two days and is now saying critical error again.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Critical Error in Windows 10

    Original Title: Critical Error

After signing in to Window 10 I get a critical error message: cortana, start menu, etc not connected, and then all automated attempts by Microsoft to fix it fail. I get around this several times a week by restarting the computer using the power button icon
on the lower left of the screen. HOW CAN I RESOLVE THIS? There are many complaints about this critical error issue.

    Suggestions :
Assuming RIGHT click at the Start button still works.......
1.Right click at Start button > click Command Prompt (Admin) > type powershell > press Enter key.
At the flashing prompt, copy and paste this command line ( to avoid typo it's best to apply Copy/paste method)......

    Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

    > press Enter.
When it is done, check if you can open Start Menu.

    2. Create another user account with exactly the same privileges as the one you are using now > logon to it and see if you have the same problem.

  5. If you can't right click the start menu press the windows key and r at the same time. Then type in powershell and continue with the quoted instructions

Not being paranoid but is this a tried and tested workaround to a known bug issue?

Yes. I did not make this one up. It has been widely used by users for the same problem.
It is not 100%, but the batting average is very good.

It's just I'm new to this forum and I am not confident I want to put a script like this in. Can you tell me the source of this information?

I ran this command myself to see what it did, and it has caused some problems with the modern apps, many of them
no longer working. SFC /scannow and DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth have not helped.
Going to try system restore now.

It works. Thank you very much! *Smile

    EDIT:
...except the next time I restarted the system it crashed and was unrecoverable.
I have now done a clean install of Windows 8 again.
I'm going to stick with that until Windows 10 has been tested properly and actually works.

  13. Windows 10 start button critical error

I have a similar problem with various taskbar functions not working (start button, volume et al), I did a restore to two days previous and everything is now working ok.

I don't see why I should be doing workarounds which may or may not work and I am reluctant to tinker.

Does anyone know what triggers this loss of functionality and if the masterminds at microsoft are actively trying to fix this and if so when are we likely to get a stable fully functional operating system.

After my current system crash, I have re installed Windows 8 and given up on Windows 10 for now.
Windows 10 was not stable with my hardware/software configuration.

  15. I've had to go back to 8.1 and as Microsoft seemingly have no intention of sorting out their latest abortion of an operating system it's where I'll be staying.
