Windows 10: Windows 10 start menu going straight to search

Hello.


My laptop which uses Windows 10 is malfunctioning. When I click on Startwindows logo button and try to use an application,the start menu gets highlighted in black and I am unable to scroll through the start menu or use any other apps. It opens the search bar instead, and I can only type in the Start menu's search bar. I can open and close the Start menu freely, but it goes straight to the search bar every time, as shown in the screenshot below. I am forced to shut off my laptop completely to solve the issue, however, once it turns back on, the problem persists as soon as I try to click on any of my apps. Please help me fix this issue.

Tried the fist no dice. Even tried uninstalling Kasperski still no go
