Windows 10: Windows 10 Start Menu not remembering its size after switching from landscape to portrait

I experienced a very peculiar problem today with Windows 10 on my Surface Pro 6. I rotated my device from the usual landscape mode to portrait to take some notes in OneNote using my stylus. Since I had not used my device in portrait mode in a little while, I had resized my Start Menu to something larger than could fit in portrait mode, so Windows automatically shrunk it from two columns of tiles to a single column, which is understandable.


However, when I returned to landscape mode, the tiles on the left were no longer showing, and only the alphabetical list of apps was visible. Of course, I could position my mouse on the edge of the menu and resize it to reveal all the tiles, but as soon as I open the menu again, it is back to the single alphabetical list of apps and I need to resize it again to reveal the various tiles I organized meaningfully.


I tried rebooting several times to no avail; the Start Menu is now a single alphabetical list of apps that could be "momentarily" resized to reveal tiles but that does not hold its size.


I am clueless at what to try next... Any idea?


PS - It is not the first time I experience some problems with the Windows 10 Start Menu... A few months ago, in landscape mode it worked perfectly, but as soon as I rotated my device in portrait mode, it would not show and I would need to rotate my device back to landscape to mode to start an app, then go back to portrait to continue whatever I was doing. Why is it so complicated for Microsoft engineers to get this menu to work all the time properly???

OK, you're probably gonna think I'm dumb:smileytongue: but I've read all the manuals and I still can't figure out how to switch the screen from portrait to landscape without opening the keyboard.
