Windows 10: Windows 10 Start problem after May 2020 update - no desktop icons, start menu does not...

Hello,


I have a problem on my Windows 10 PC after the recent May 2020 version 2004 update installed on 10th June 2020. My Online Windows account reports last successful update as version 1909.


1. Windows 10 Home starts

2. The Welcome page is displayed with my user name and I am logged into the desktop

3. A holiday photo is displayed as the deskop background wallpaper

4. There are no desktop program icons displayed on the desktop there were before the upgrade


If I click on the start menu icon, the mouse pointer just spins round circle

If I right click on the desktop nothing happens

If I right click on the taskbar nothing happens

If I press the Windows key + X key, nothing happens

If I press the Windows key + E key, nothing happens

If I press the CTRL + ALT + DEL I get the options Lock, Switch User, Sign Out and Task Manager, the Shutdown icon and network icons are also displayed

If I click on Task Manager, nothing happens

I can click on the network icon and shutdown icons


I rebooted via USB stick with Windows 10 install media and tried uninstalling the recent Feature Update and recent Quallity Update, both failed

I also tried using the System Restore and go back to a point before the May 2020 update, but that failed

I also tried to update inplace the Windows install using the USB boot media, but it would not allow me to perform the update not supported


Can anyone suggest a solution or something else for me to try to fix this?

Start menu default internet acces icon screwed?

You generally set that via the Start Menu settings (right-click start menu -> properties).

I had that issues a while ago, and it meant removing it from the Start Menu, and reinstalling my browser to get the icon back, it was very odd.

Windows 10 Start menu issue

Ive always had issues with the start menu. Pin to start sometimes doesn't work. Now I cant move the icons. And the right click menu sticks. If I do manage to move one it disappears on to reappear later.
Love 10 other than that. Whats the deal? I would like to organize my icons. Ive tried tablet mode too
