Windows 10: Windows 10 start screen

I use Windows 10 on a Dell laptop not a touchscreen. Until recently, a mouse click on the lower part of the welcome screen brought up the password prompt. Suddenly, that stopped working but I eventually found that Ctrl+Alt+Del brings up the password prompt. How do I get back to the original configuration and avoid having to use Ctrl+Alt+Del?I've been through many similar questions on this Community but have not found a solution. I used netplwiz to check User Accounts > Advanced > Secure sign-in and the check box 'Require users to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete" is not ticked.

Black screen after 'Starting Windows' sequence

Sounds like the old... windows black screen of death.

• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

I would suggest you to try the following steps:

• 
  Click Start icon and click Settings
  
• 
  Choose Personalization, click on Start
  
• 
  Turn on “Use start full screen”
