Windows 10: Windows 10 startscreen default folder icon

I didn't found on forum ( or at least an old topic without clue ) how to change this yellow folder.
Some pointed out this path where there are 6 folders png but didn't changed anything after taking ownership , edited and reboot.
C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.Windows.FileExplorer_cw5n1h2txyewy\Assets

If you were to change the folder icon on an individual basis, you'd need to in the folder in which it exists- one of the two comprising the start menu structure.

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
C:\Users\------\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

Example of an old program to do this very simply- a context menu entry:

Correct- I wasn't tryng to address the question of the location, which would apply to all such folders.

If, however, you wish to customise individual folders, this kind of approach is appropriate.

Of course, that's only one such program- you can find more... some of which offer a set of icon resources to choose from.

At a purely Windows level you can do this of couse:




And you can see it looks as if the folder icon is in
%SystemRoot%\System32\SHELL32.dll

Examining that with Resource Hacker should let you find the default icon.
