Windows 10| Startup Times Slow Since Creators Update

As the title says, my startup times have been horrible ever since getting the creators update. It takes about two minutes to reach the lock screen, and after logging in, it takes another five minutes for the computer to actually let me open programs. Before the creators update, booting and logging in took 20 seconds max, and that was on a bad day. The reason I'm posting this here is because I was hoping someone had a solution that would involve using regedit. Regedit has helped me resolve quite a few Windows issues in the past; even helping me resolve the icon behavior issue that many people seem to be experiencing since installing the creators update.

    Here are my specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 220 2.80GHz Dual Core
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 (MSI)
    RAM: 6GB
    PSU: 220W
    OS: Windows 10 Pro (x64)

And these are my startup programs:

    Please help!

Edit: I forgot to mention, my computer does not have any malware, so that's not the issue. Just thought I'd mention in case someone wanted to know if that was my issue. It's not. Well... unless you count the creators update.

    :)

  3. Remove App Removal that not compatible with a Window 10 upgrade

I would refrain from attempting to upgrade your computer; since all computers with the AMD Carrtizo CPU have been flagged as incompatible with the Windows 10 Creators Update at this time.

Microsoft is working AMD and HP to issue a fix.

You should also follow Microsoft's advisory and upgrade only when offered through Windows Update:

Hi, this has been experienced by some and there are many threads on this you could explore. See below.
I've listed a few ideas for you.

Some suggest turning fast startup and hibernation off:

Note a few find their disk transfer rate is very low- e.g. 10MB/s, but appears 100% utilised. (This is not peculiar to Win 10)

  5. I would like to have you run a Clean Boot.

How to perform a Clean Boot.

Warning: Disabling items in Services or Startup may leave your anitivirus disabled until the process is ended. For this reason I would suggest that you perform this process off line.

    Press the

keys to open Run, then type msconfig in the search box. This will open System Configuration.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, you should enter the password or provide confirmation.

    (1) Click/tap on the General tab.

    (2) Click/tap on the Selective startup option.

    (3) Remove the check mark in the Load startup items check box.

    4. Click on the Services tab.

    5. Place a check mark in the Hide all Microsoft services check box, this will remove the Microsoft Services from the list but will still be running.

    6. Click Disable all, this will remove all of the check marks in the Services list.

    7. Click on Apply then OK

Click on Restart in the window that opens.

When the computer is restarted it will boot normally.

If the problem does not continue after the restart please do the following.

    8. Divide the number of these services by two and you place checks in the first half of these, then restart the computer.

    9. If the problem doesn't return in those services remove the checks and place checks in the remaining services and restart the computer.

    10. When you find which half the service is in go on to the next step.

    11. The half which has the service causing this problem remove half of the checks as you did previously to see which half has this service. Restart the computer.

    12. If it isn't in the first half of these services, do the same with the last half of the services.

    13. Once you have narrowed it down to the last three or four services remove the checks one at a time till you find the service at fault.

Once you have found the service post it in your topic. Do not take any action until I suggest the next step.

  6. I have a four more hints that worked for me :

1 - If you are using a 3rd party anti-virus (ex: AVG , Avast) on current build they tend to do an at boot diagnostic and startup that takes a little bit of time and might be hidden sometimes by boot logo , try to uninstall your antivirus and reboot and see , if it helps just bug their support for a fix like I did.

2 - New build download and update all your drivers , like I see you have an AMD machine so I suggest you re-install back your manufacturer's mother board chipset driver and your Wifi device driver , the ones that Microsoft have are not doing well for all .

3 - Turn off System Restore then back on .

4 - Turn off Virtual Memory by setting it to no paging > Reboot > the set it back to Automatically Managed

Upon restarting to see how much the disk is being used, I found it's only using 50% (Disk 0 is 100% and Disk 1 is 0%, not sure what the difference is.) When first starting up, the two processes "System" and "Antimalware Service Executable" are the main culprits, using 5mb/s each. Eventually they stop that, but my usage doesn't go down, because as soon as they do, Service Host: Superfetch starts using a ton of my disk, and then eventually drops down to 0mb/s - 0.1mb/s. I'm also including a screenshot of a test to show you the max potential of my hard drive just in case you needed that info *Smile

FreeBooter I'm currently working on finding out which processes are slowing down the startup, but odds are in the end, I'll only use my antivirus service and the mobile device service from Apple.

nIGHTmAYOR I use the free version of SuperAntiSpyware and I also have Malwarebytes installed (which I haven't used in months because Malwarebytes' program is just too slow. Before that, I had Bitdefender and COMODO which I have since uninstalled. When I had them installed though, there was never any slowdown (this was before the update.)

Two things you need to know :

First the column head counter doing (48%) is "cumulative" disk write in time , the rest of the column is "running programs" consumption of that percent , there is also "services" consumption but is not showing , a lot of people would direct you to turn off indexing service as it sometimes go crazy after updates finding all sorts of file changes so start re-indexing everything and that might take unreasonable amount of time on some systems .

Second it was after the formal integration of Windows Defender as a full security solution and all sorts of conflicts are rising with all sorts of anti-viruses as apparently they don't play along well with Defender , hence their need to integrate their loading in boot to precede Defender in controlling resources . You might just want to try to boot without any antivirus to see if this is your case .

Just in case, I disabled Windows defender with gpedit.msc since I have Windows 10 Pro. I'll see if that helps resolve my issue. I've also disabled superfetch, it's been disabled for a week now and no issues have occurred that are related to it so I'm assuming it isn't all that important? Still, even after disabling, disk 0 is still maxed out.

Disabling services on startup that are not microsoft related hasn't changed the startup times unfortunately. I'm almost positive it's because of my disk usage on startup though.

Hi, you might try this which has significantly reduced disk usage after logon:
Open Task Scheduler. Under Microsoft->Windows->Customer Experience Improvement Program. Right click->disable the 2 tasks.

You don't need them and been known to cause problems. MS collect data and send it in the background.
