Windows 10: Windows 10 stuck at desktop after start

So I recently upgraded my HP laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10, taking me around 5 hours to do so. So after the installation was done, it restarted I logged into my user. It displayed the desktop but after I tried to open the file manager, the screen went black with only the cursor available. What do I do?


I also have another question. Before upgrading to Windows 10, I used Windows 7. Whenever I tried to boot, it always showed me to two options - Windows 7 or Windows 7 EMS enabled. I booted into Windows 7 normally and upgraded it. But I think the Windows 7 OS has remained, since it asks me whether to boot into Windows 10 or Windows 7. As said before, when the desktop was displayed, I got the desktop from my Windows 7without EMS enabled, and I couldn't see nor access my files from the Windows 7with EMS enabled. How do I access those files without trying to upgrade it too?

To understand the issue better, I would like to ask some questions:

• Is the computer stuck in the Installing updates screen?
• For how long is the computer stuck in the screen?
• When was the computer last updated?
• Is the screen showing any percentage of installation?

Sometimes the installation might take a long time to install if the update is of large size. So, I suggest you to wait for sometime and check if the system boots to the desktop. If it is taking a longer time, then perform a Power Drain by following the steps
provided below:

• Shut down the Computer.
• Remove all power source (including battery if it is a laptop).
• Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
• Connect the power source and start the computer.
• After the computer boots to the desktop, suggest you to install all the pending updates.

Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

windows 10 deleted my desktop files

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

• Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
• Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
• Click on Users, select your User name
• Go to desktop folder

Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.
