Windows 10: Windows 10 stuck in Selective Startup mode in MSCONFIG

System Configuration Utility, popularly known as MSCONFIG, allows you to configure the startup behavior of Windows. It allows users to troubleshoot the load time, stability, and performance problems. It has been reported that Windows 10 gets stuck in Selective Startup, which means few things will never load as the computer starts. If you are facing this issue, then this post may be able to help you resolve the problem.

MSConfig offers three modes—

1. Normal startup,
2. Diagnostic startup, or
3. Selective startup.

When Windows gets stuck in selective startup, then even when you select the Normal startup option, the option may change to the Selective startup option when you restart your computer.



If Normal startup reverts to Selective startup as MSCONFIG cannot select or save settings after reboot, then try this:

• Type MSConfig in the Run prompt (Win +R) and press the Enter key.
• Switch to the Boot tab
• Click on the Advanced Options button.
• Clear all the that is selected there
• Click on the OK button.
• Restart the computer, and now everything should boot normally.

Microsoft mentions that the Normal startup option reverts to Selective startup if you select any of the options in the Advanced Boot Settings dialog box in MSCONFIG. This behavior is by design.

Additionally, if any of the services have been disabled or changed from their default value, the computer will set the startup type as Selective. Switch to the Services tab, and then check if you have anything disabled, enable it.

Selective Startup is not a bad thing. Most of the time, many services start as the computer starts, and this diminishes the system performance. It helps you troubleshoot. If you are facing a problem, you may have to go through the list one by one, and check if the particular service or option is disabled or checked, and change it.

MSCONFIG is Stuck in Selective Startup

The New (Latest -September 2016) Windows 10 Update Recently Installed.

After that Update

Now my Desktop PC (AMD Processor) will not Start after being Powered Off.

It starts to Boot then hangs at the Windows 10 Logo Screen

I then Do a System Shut Down by Holding The Power On/Off Button to Power Down.

Then Push the Power Button to Start

The Next Boot will then Start Windows Properly

Opening MSCONFIG as Administrator.

MSCONFIG is stuck in Selective Startup.

And Will Not Accept Any Changes

Even after a Restart.

Any Help would be Appreciated

 

msconfig stuck on selective startup

when i open the msconfig, its stuck on selective startup and when i select normal startup, the apply button is grayed out. when i press ok and open it again, it goes back to selective startup. the issue is that i have everything in selective startup checked
(even the things in the tabs) and some programs don't launch on startup. For example, i get a msi usb speed up error "the api was not found" everytime i start my computer. Before i had this problem, it was in normal startup. i had a problem with my computer
and had to set up remote session with a microsoft support representative, and i think he did something to make the computer not load anything on startup and now its stuck in selective.

 

Boot problem - Stuck in Selective Startup

Please help me, I'm desperate! I followed some steps and it seems I reuined my normal booting. I did this steps: -I entered the run windows -> MSCONFIG -left click on the BOOT tab -unchecked the box next to "safe mode" --left click on GENERAL tab -from the
features I got there I went to SELECTIVE STARTUP -unchecked the features to clear the selections -left click on the SERVICES - disable all -left click on STARTUP tab and disabled each item in the list -reboot the windows

AND I GOT STUCK... it doesn't boot normally, it appears only the background image and some features below like: languages, connections. PLEASE help me to go back to normal boot... if a still can

I only can enter the Bios Mode... with F8
