Windows 10: Windows 10 stuck on "preparing automatic repair" but only on some computer

Hello,


I'm stuck like my OS and now here to ask your help.


A lot of time ago I installed Windows 10 Professional 10.0.16299.1127 using WinToHDD on an SSD USB 3.0.

I know it's not the correct way but it's worked well for me a lot of years.


Some days ago the system is become unstable and it's stuck on the message "Preparing automatic repair".

The strange things is that if I use the Win10 installed on USB SSD with another machine the system runs without problems.

I repeat: just on one machine, on my favorite, the system doesn't startup. I'm struggled.


I tried to:

- disable automatic repair without success

- restore a previous restore point without success

- runs the startup repair without success


Do you have any other idea?

This issue can be caused by system files corruption.

To better assist you, please answer the following questions:

• On which version of Windows 10 is your device running?
• Are you getting any error messages?
• Do you have an installation media for Windows 10 (DVD or USB)?

To assist you better, please provide the information below:

• Have you tried to perform the Startup repair method which is provided in the previous post?
• Are you getting any error code?

I suggested in the previous post, try to first download the Windows ISO file and create Windows 10 Installation Media.

Then I recommend you to follow the steps which is provided in the above method to perform start-up repair of the computer and let us know if you need any assistance while performing the above steps.

My HP laptop is stuck on Preparing Automatic Repair has been for many hours

Hello Sarah,

I'd like to verify if you're computer is still stuck on Preparing Automatic Repair state. If not, I'd suggest to perform the steps below:

1. Force shutdown your laptop, check first if your computer will boot normally. If not, after your computer restarts several times. you'll see the Windows 10 Boot Options menu.

2. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options.

3. Choose Command Prompt, copy and paste the commands below and press Enter the after each line:

• bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd
• bootrec.exe /fixmbr
• bootrec.exe /fixboot
