Windows 10 takes too long to boot.

I know this is a holiday weekend, but I'm set to start a new job working from home. Just as I'm about to go live I'm suddenly noticing that Windows 10 is taking 5 minutes or from turning it on to when I can actually use it. I've already done the basics by looking for malware, Trojans, spyware, ect. System is already set to check for disk errors nightly, with a complete defrag and optimize done once a week. The only software I've installed recently has been Chrome as that's required by the company I work for.

Since I'll be using this computer for work now, I've migrated most of my personal stuff off the system. The only one left that loads at boot is Steam. Personal, yet business related I have the freelance website Upwork load on boot as well. I do run System Mechanic Pro running both at boot and in background. That seems to have helped keep my registry from getting to out of hand, because it defrags and compacts it every hard boot. (I do this at least once every other day, during the day so I can keep an eye on things.)

Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated!

    Merry Christmas!

    :)

My laptop uses x64 processor with 2GB ram. That problem only occured in Windows 10 Insider preview build 10565. The length of booting time lasts a day and still goin on... (I haven't turned off my laptop for the hope of getting the OS online.)

First. Defragging and compacting the registry on boot is not necessary, and could cause lots of issues, like corrupt keys. Programs like System Mechanic Pro, and all "Do everything" cleaners are basically snake oil....generally worthless and can create more issues than they can possibly correct.

Second, looking in you Taskmanager/Startup tab, disable all the extra programs you have set to fire up on startup. Don't confuse "long boot time" with "long time to get to desktop". They are 2 separate issues. Disable those programs (not uninstall...disable), and set that Mechanic Pro to NOT do the registry business at boot.

Reboot your system and see if it comes up to a usable desktop quicker. Let us know.

Just curious if all these programs are "snake oil", why do a so many experts suggest using CCleaner, which I also use? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm just confused is all. Also, before plunking down the money for the program I did research online. System Mechanic came highly rated by sources like Pc Magazine and others. Believe me I have neither time or money to waste money on gimmicks like you see on tv where they try to sell you a usb stick that can let you run Windows 10 on a 486.

Typical reboot for me goes something like this. After tapping the power key and the screen lights up, I get the typical defrag and compress from System Mechanic. This takes only a few seconds. This is followed by a Toshiba splash screen with the dotted circle. This lasts 1-3 minutes (I've timed it!) After that's gone I go to a total black screen, no desktop, no "working" icon or anything. I sometimes can see my mouse arrow though. This again lasts 1-3 minutes...again timed. Once the desktop does come up, it has no icons, and only the Windows icon in the lower left hand corner appears. If...IF I have a mouse arrow, I can't click on it. After 3-5 more minutes I may or may not have icons, but still no icons in tool bar or Cortana. Eventually over time I will get Edge, File Explorer, Windows store Google Drive, Notepad++ and Calculator to appear (all my pinned apps).

Even after they appear I still can't click on anything. I KNOW I still have to wait for Steam, and Upwork to load. If my wireless was able to connect during all this after Steam and Upwork has loaded, then I can start using my computer. I eventually plan to move Steam off this computer, so I won't have to worry about that. I want Upwork to load as I have it set to give me alerts for jobs I might be interested in. Before anyone suggests it, I'm going to attach a screen shot of the programs loading for advice on which ones I could disable. (I know alt+print screen gives me a .png of the current open window, what key combo would give me an entire screen including tool bar with date and time included...I need that for work)
