I have been doing Folding@Home overnight and it used to work fine so long as I closed any Game Launchers like Steam that may install updates and overload the PC but just in case I had Processor Affinity for F@H processes off for my 8 core no SMT CPU for headroom. Folding@Home now goes fine for a time and freezes or occasionally BSOD crashes with varying errors. I have logged sensors and temperatures are fine and GPU is not overloaded. I even went so far to put a more sensitive fan curve on my GPU and it made no difference.

Then I noticed this happening when I ran F@H:

    Task Manager vs System Explorer

CPU activity would spike to nearly 100% and then drop to mid 30's, then go back up and repeat at a regular interval on all but the 8th core I leave for overhead. Meanwhile every other program I try shows the CPU pinned on all cores non-stop except the 8th core.

This has been going on for weeks now and I have no idea what is causing this. Any Ideas?

Windows 10 Display Blinking with High CPU

After upgrade to Windows 10, experiencing flashing display and high CPU.

    • At initial logon screen everything is normal - wall paper and logon screen display with no blinking
    • After logon, fan starts as CPU usage spikes, cursor is accompanied by the spinning blue circle
    • touchscreen does not respond to swipe to access Recovery/Safe mode for reboot
    • able to get to Task Manager and Perfmon to see high CPU usage and explorer.exe is suspended
looking for suggestions on how to either fix or roll back to Windows 8.1

Overclock cpu max frequency constantly changing in task manager

    Hi,

I'm overclocking my Intel 8700k to 5Ghz and every time I check the current frequency in task manager the max is constantly changing. I have high-performance power settings on windows enabled and I have also disabled CPU state and Intel SpeedStep in the BIOS.
I also noticed that when using other tools to display my GPU and CPU performance they show my CPU max frequency is exactly 5Ghz, why does Task Manager constantly display a constantly changing frequency?

    Any suggestions?

    Much appreciated

How to read the CPU utilization values shown in Task Manager

    Hi all,

I am trying to monitor the overall CPU utilization and show it in my application(built using LabVIEW). Most of the online search suggests using performance monitor counters but the values are way off (sometimes 30% difference) from what is displayed in Task
    Manager.

I would like to understand how the Task manager computes CPU usage and is there any DLL or Command line to get that value.

    Thanks,

    Mani.
