    Windows 10 TH2 Crapping Out At 40%

This is very frustrating! I tried updating my previous Windows 10 software (which had been working fine) twice now and it keeps crapping out at 40% when installing features and drivers (23%). I'm upgrading my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. The message is "Windows could not configure one or more system components". It then says to restart the computer and restart the installation. I don't want to do this again unless it's going to work since it takes about 1.5 hours each time so far. I prefer not to do a clean install unless it's my last resort.

    Suggestions please?

    :)

There have been reports of the upgrade install stalling at 40% if there is a SD or MicroSD card in the card reader.

Hope this helps with your problem.

I read that as well. I removed the SD card and even removed my anti-virus (Avast) software. Now, for some reason, the update does not load and Windows says its up to date.

How do I trigger the update to load again?

Use the Media Creation Tool to do a Upgrade Now or create a flash drive to install from or create an ISO that you can simply mount and upgrade with (right click on the ISO and select mount - run setup.exe from the mounted ISO).

While upgrading your Windows, Setup will try to replace drivers for your devices. If any device is found not having Windows 10 drivers on Windows Update or other known source to Setup, it will hang. Uninstall any antivirus and firewall, remove all peripherals (printers, scanners etc). Then go at Device Manager and disable any non-important device such as audio, SATA/SCSI controller without devices attached, TV tuner etc. Then press Win+R to load Run and execute msconfig. Go to Services tab and check the box to hide all Microsoft services. See the remaining third-party services and uncheck the box to disable anything non-important such as updaters. Then click on the Startup tab and click to open Task Manager. See all startup applications and disable anything non-important such as Java updater, Skype, QTtask and quick launchers. Now you should be able to run Setup without any issue.

    Windows 10 TH2 Crapping Out At 40%

    Hi Guys

Ok, same problem for me. I get to the 40% mark (installing drivers and features) and get an error box pop up with the following:-

“Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install Windows, restart the computer and then restart the installation.”

Clicking ok then restores my previous version of Windows 10 and the following error message:-

    “0xC1900101 – 0x30018
The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSREP operation”

I am installing from a mounted ISO (not a clean install) and for my last failed attempt I did all of the following:-

Disabled all non essential hardware in device manager, audio, camera, blue tooth, printers etc
Disabled all non Microsoft services from MSCONFIG
Disabled all non essential start programs
    Switched off Windows firewall
    Uninstalled AV
    Disabled Net Framework 3.5
    No SD card

If anyone has any further idea’s I will be happy to try. Worthy of note maybe but I haven’t been offered the update through WU and upgraded from Win7 to Win10 in September.

    Thank you!

In Windows 8.1 you may also have to disable Fast startup. Open Control Panel, click View by -> Large icons to see all controls. Open Power Options and, from the left, click Choose what the power button does. Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable and uncheck the Fast startup box. If applicable, you must also disable secure boot in BIOS.

I haven't got secure boot as an option in my BIOS but have tried it all again with fast start-up disabled but still no good. Many thanks for the suggestion though, much appreciated!

  11. For me, I solved it by unplugging the usb cable from my Dell SX2210 monitor from my computer that supported my mic and built in webcam. Then it worked. But now that I am upgraded, I get the BSOD whenever I plug it back in. Trying to solve here and on the answers.microsoft.com forums...

I haven't got any peripherals plugged in but just gave it another go, this time by updating some drivers, repeating all steps above and disabling wifi. Again no good. That was my 8th attempt and I think that I will admit defeat now, my laptop will not update from Windows 10 to erm.. Windows 10 *Biggrin

Try uninstalling the webcam driver, if any before you plug it. Open Device Manager, select View -> Show hidden devices, expand the Imaging devices and see if there is your webcam there. Disable it so it won't give a BSOD when you connect it. Then download latest webcam driver, connect the device and manually force the driver from Device Manager.

  15. Very frustrating and such a time waster. I like solving problems like the next guy, but think about it, most people are noobs when it comes to computers. Spending the time like we are is a not gonna happen for them. Unless they google it and get lucky with some good advice and step by step instructions, your gonna be pretty ticked off. These upgrades are not supposed to be difficult. Once a problem occurs, noobs are looking here and there trying to solve their own problems, but ultimately we are at the mercy of Microsoft and vendors. I read earlier that one guys webcam worked fine under one build of Windows 10 and then failed when he upgraded to a later build. This absolutely stinks. How does one keep up? Under Windows 7, my machine worked pretty good. Now Dell and others are not providing update drivers for older equipment, and letting Windows solve it for Windows 10. I guess this is ok, but its a pain in the a$$ when things stop working.
