Windows 10: Windows 10 themes - selecting certain pictures SOLVED

I recently went looking for a way to extract/save certain pictures from a windows theme, and came across some old threads on here where others had asked the same question, but it never was answered. I found a webpage where it explains how to do this, and i tested it and it works, so i thought i would share it for all of you.

You can go to the link, or here is basically what to do:


-Copy this: %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Themes

-Paste it into the Run prompt or the file search at the bottom of your screen.

-Open the theme you want the photos from.

-You should see a file icon, and another that i wasnt familiar with.

-Open the file, and you should find the images for the theme.


i then just moved them to a location i could find them

Neither of the above suggestions help. Vijaya's suggestions only take me to basic directions which I already know. I followed Ric's instructions to the point of my name...

C:\Users\your username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Themes There is nothing under my name called AppData (see screen capture below of what is listed under my name) I tried another suggestion





What I want to do is like what I did in Win 7. I want to select or deselect certain pictures in a theme I download to be displayed or not displayed.

Ric I tried C:\Users\your username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Themes and it showed me the pictures but there is no way to select or deselect what displays on the screen.

Thank you for providing the information.

• Did you try the steps suggested by Suvarna Govinda above, what was the result?

As I understand the issue, Themes in Windows doesn't have the options to change on its own. Only the Wallpapers in the themes can change as selected ( Picture, Solid color and Slide Show ).

I would suggest you to make us understand that if the Wallpapers are changing in Theme which you have selected.

Below are the steps you can check if it helps.

• Press Windows + I keys and select Personalization.
• Select Theme and select the Default theme.
• Select the Desktop Background below and select the Picture
  and save it and check.

Windows 10 themes - selecting certain pictures

How can I select only some of the pictures in a windows 10 theme? Win 8 had that option but I cant find it in Win 10.
