windows 10 tool wiped external storage device

I have had to spend over £100 to buy a new storage device after windowns 10 download destroyed my storage device of years. I m using a recovery tool to restore it onto a new storage device. however i am concerned it will do the same to the new device as soon as the recovery process is complete if it hasnt already. How do i remove the windows 10 tool from the new device. none of the files have names, most documents are unreadable, and any I click open could be the tool. Even without clikcing it open, it will destroy the new storage device since I never clicked it open or anything except downlo

  2. Update Assistant does not detect External Storage Device

I am currently facing an issue with the update assistant. The problem comes from the prompt as seen from this webpage

Free up space for Windows updates

The issue is in "Step 2: Connect an external storage device". It says to
"Connect your external storage device and wait until you see it in the drop-down list" but the external storage device already connected to my device (and shows up on My PC) is not shown on the drop down list. Can you help?

Will using Storage Spaces wipe out data already on external drive?

Windows 10 says i am low on space and suggests using Storage Spaces. I have an external hard drive with lots of space that I was going to use, rather than buy another drive. Will moving data to save space from my PC to the drive work if there is already
data on the external, and, will it wipe out the existing data if I can move additional data to the external?

Update Assistant does not detect External Storage Device

    Hi Haziq,

To further isolate the issue, kindly answer the questions below:

    • Have you tried connecting your external device storage to different PC to make sure that it's not defective?

    • Have you tried connecting a different external storage device to your PC to check if you're still experiencing the same issue?

    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

For the meantime, you may try suggested troubleshooting that was provided by
    Andre Da Costa
from this link and check if it makes any difference.

    Update us with the result.
