Windows 10: Windows 10 TP Latest build install on an empty machine

OK, fair enough. The first link should fill you in as to what rufus is, and how its used. You were wondering what it was and that was my main reason for posting the links. Do yourself a favor and first chance you get, pick up one or two USB thumb drives. They come in very handy for stuff like this. The install will go much faster than doing it from optical media. And the thumb drive can be redone/reused many times over.

I do all my installs from USB thumb drives. I use diskpart to create them. The one thumb drive will work for both UEFI and Legacy installs. Option two here, http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...e-windows.html is how I do it.

I aquired a flashdrive, trying out this method now. I'll come back with results

Edit: I've downloaded it 4 times in total. I'm inclined to say it's not corrupted.

 

Right, so, same thing has happened. Windows splash logo, no loading ring, no cursor, nothin. Anyone got any ideas?

Edit: Sorry, actually, I haven't exhausted all my option with the flashdrive yet. Nevermind on that.

 

I believe your drive has a partition on it, when you get to ' where do you want to install windows' have you tried highlighting the drive, in advanced options, delete the partition and install to the raw drive? See if that works.

 

If you mean from the windows 10 installation, then no. I haven't gotten farther than the windows splash screen with any windows 10 installation media thus far.

 

Okay, so, development:

The usb flashdrive worked exactly one times. I started installation, and then went to go eat. I came back to find the laptop turned off, and when i turned it on, i found nothing but a black screen on boot. I tried booting to the flash drive again, to the same issue as last time with all the other installation medias; black screen, no cursor, windows splash logo.

 

Where did you get the iso you are using?
How are you creating the flash drive? The simplest way I know of is to use Rufus.

Don't set USB as the first boot device, leave that as your optical or hard drive. Instead use the Fn key that opens the boot menu.

That's exactly what I just did. I used Rufus, and I used the boot menu, and I followed those exact instructions.

 

Did you create a UEFI/GPT flash drive to install with?
Is Secure Boot disabled in Setup?

Could you try it again but don't do step 12 B

Instead, once you delete all the partitions and you have a fully unallocated drive, don't click NEW, Apply, just click Next. The installer will create and format the needed partitions then start the install.

See if that makes a difference.

 

I would try it again if it would boot into the flash drive, but now i'm stuck back at square one. There is no secure boot option in the bios.

 

What happened to the previous OS that was on it? Is the hardware sound? Maybe it has bad RAM or a defective hard drive? If you have the very same model laptop, test your thumb drive on it. You can boot from it and not hurt anything. You just quit the install before you do anything. If the thumb drive gets to the Windows setup menu then you know its not the thumb drive, its something messed up on the other laptop.

Check the requirements against your system: Windows 10 Specifications - Microsoft

You can ignore the Windows 8 sell at the end of the test.

If the machine passes the Win8 Compat test and meets the requirements, you might try this:
Some members got past that point by cold starting the machine at the 'stuck' point of the install.
Press and hold the power button until the machine shuts down,
wait a minute or two and
then restart the machine in Normal mode.
