Windows 10: Windows 10, unable to open any picture format with any program

Hi


For couple months I have this issue, that I can't open any picture on my computer. All the default picture viewers aren't working and I also tried the Irfanview. The only thing that work sometimes is Paint.
Everytime I try to open a picture it says: "The app didn't start." Other picture previewing apps just start for a second, then they go black and crash.

Also, some other Windows programs seems to have died, like Calculator, Calendar, etc... Even some icons are missing.

Any idea what may seem to be the problem?

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Can't open pictures in Windows 10.

  Which program are you using to open pictures?
  
• 
  What exactly happened when you are trying to change the Desktop background?
  
• 
  What is the exact error message you are getting?
  
• 
  What is the file format of the pictures?
  

I would suggest you to use Windows Photo Viewer to open this file and check, if it helps. I would also suggest you to make Windows Photo Viewer as the default program to open pictures and check, if it works. You may also try opening the same
picture using Paint and check, if you are able to open without any issues. You can refer to the following Microsoft article to set a program as the default application.



Choose the apps Windows uses by default.
