1. Windows 10 unexpected shutdown during startup

Hi there,

so i just sat down to a monday morning of corona home office, turned on my machine and it started to go through the standard startup procedures, when it unexpectedly just shut down automatically - as in just turned itself off, no power.

I turned it back on and it booted up just fine, event manager showing a kernel 41 critical error.

This is the first time this has happened on a 14 month old machine.

Ive since turned off windows 10 Fast-startup as per recommendations from this forum.

I also just ran whocrashed and got a report of a crash from the night before, around the exact time i was shutting down my system for the day, report as follows:

crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\041221-8671-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe nt+0x3F5DB0
Bugcheck code: 0xA0 0x10E, 0xA, 0x601D, 0x5620
Error: INTERNAL_POWER_ERROR
file path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
company: Microsoft Corporation
description: NT Kernel & System
Bug check description: This bug check indicates that the power policy manager experienced a fatal error.
This is likely to be caused by a hardware problem. This problem might also be caused because of overheating thermal issue.
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.

The shutdown from this time was seemingly without issue, computer just powered down like normal as far as i could tell

Windows is currently updated to latest levels, and CPUID HWMonitor is showing all temps from mainboard, cpu and gpu at around 30°C.

Do i have a serious underlying problem here or just a one off knee-graze?

:)

PC is Suffering Unexpected Shutdowns

Most important detail to me would be whether these shutdowns are sudden, in which case it's likely a short or PSU issue (capacitor aging maybe?) or graceful windows style shutdowns, which suggests software interference.

It could also be overheating components if it's a sudden shutdown. What are your thermals like?

3. Unexpected Shutdown

Hi

Please see response to your questions below

• Did you make any changes on the computer prior to this issue?
No changes other than about a month ago reinstalling W10.

• What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
Other than checking updates have successfully installed, none as not sure approach to take.

• What was the exact error code/message you have received?
No error code or message received. On the first occasion I was looking at outlook and without any warning the PC shutdown. It was almost as if it was a desktop (it is a laptop) and the power stopped. The laptop was plugged into the mains and in addition
the battery had a full a full charge.

On restarting the laptop no error message came up and I only noted a small difference in boot up, that for a short period a blue screen was displayed (not normally seen on boot up) and then the start screen appeared for me to log in.

As mentioned previously the only reference to this is from the log which in the summary states that there was an unexpected shutdown.
