Windows 10: Windows 10 uninitiated user change

Fully current Windows 10 on laptop computer. Would not allow me to play a video because player was 'already in use', which it was not. After checking Task Manager to confirm video player was not running, but still getting the same error message, I restarted the computer. Sign in with user name and password was normal, though screen was not the usual one, but after booting, nothing was as expected. The home page had only three icons, Recycle. Chrome and Edge. Windows key brought up no installed program list and only four window program squares. In Settings, I am the only user and the administrator and I can use File Explorer to find all of the former Desktop icons and other files, so nothing appears to be lost.


Any help getting the former sign in routine to work, or what needs to be corrected in Settings would be greatly appreciated.

• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”

I would suggest you to go through the below steps:

Steps: To determine the user account type:

• 
  Login to any account.
  
• 
  Press Windows key+X.
  
• 
  Click on Control Panel.
  
• 
  Click on User accounts.
  
• 
  Your user account will show and below that it will show your local account or admin account.
  
• 
  Once you know about the account type.
  
• 
  You can go to user account and change the name.
  
• 
  Press Windows key+R.
  
• 
  Type netplwiz and press enter.
  
• 
  Select the account and click on properties.
  
• 
  Change the user name and click on apply and then ok and one more time click on ok on the main screen.

  Reboot the computer and check if it helps
