Windows 10: Windows 10 unstable WiFi connection: new? issue and easy fix

Hi folks, I have been dogged by WiFi connection instability since reinstalling Windows 10 on a Sony Viao laptop and re-establishing my WiFi network connection to a previously perfectly functioning mobile hotspot; tried various solutions proposed on here and other places to no avail eg driver update, driver reinstall, power management settings, turning off some WiFi bands....


Last night I stumbled upon the cause of the instability; somehow I had accidentally selected auto-connect to a neighbour's WiFi network that I don't have password access to, so I'd connect to my WiFi hot-spot then unbeknownst to me Windows would detect this other network and try to connect to that, disconnecting the established WiFi connection in the process.


I simply deselected the auto-connect option from this other network and hey-presto, not a single drop-out since. Probably not a common issue - why would you select auto-connect to a network you don't have password access to, other than by accident? - but worth putting out there, if it can happen to me surely it can happen to someone else!

It's possible that some settings on your computer were affected after installing an upgrade since you mentioned that this intermittent network connection that you're experiencing only started after that. We'd like to learn more about your concern so we could
provide the proper resolution. We just have a few questions for you:

• Which build version of Windows 10 is on your computer? To check, click
  Start, type winver, and press Enter.
• Are other devices able to connect to your WiFi network without any problems?
• Have you checked with your Internet Service provider if there are any outages in your area?

• What is the Version and Build of Windows 10 currently installed? (Type
  winver in Windows search/Run command)

• What is the make and model of the PC?
  

• Are you aware of any changes on the PC prior to this issue?

Highly Unstable Wifi Connection

From the day I bought my computer, my wifi-conectivity has been unstable. It has always been annoying me, but recently the coonection has become so unstable that I daily feel the urge to throw the laptop against a wall or out the window... So I hope somebody
can give me the advice that will finally fix my wifi-problems.

The things is that my computer often disconnects (sometimes every 5 minutes or less) from the internet. When I click the wifi-icon, I usually can see my own network and the computer appears to be connected (but it doesn't work). Usually I can see lots of
networks around me, but they vanish from the list when I lose the connection (though my own stays).

I have tried restoring the computer to its original state (I bought it with Windows 8 and updated it to Windows 10), updating the networking drivers, followed all the steps on

this page. I have run the various diagnostic tools I've been made aware of on different homepages, too. Nothing seems to work at all.

Can anybody tell me what I can do to fix my connection.

OS: Windows 10 (upgraded from Windows 8), 64 Bit.

Network Related: Card and drivers all come from Realtek.
