Windows 10: windows 10 update and net helpmsg2182

I am using Windows 10 Pro which was a free update from Windows 7. Version in use is 1809. Since then I have not been able to perform update to a newer version. Now, version 1809 may no longer be supported in two months. I am very worried.


I must have performed update procedures for 50 times. A month ago, the download procedure was completed, and update actually started but stopped at 3%.


In the last few times, downloading was completed but then preparing computer for update stopped at 99%. Always same, at 99%.


As always, troubleshoot windows update showed NET HELPMSG2182. I could not find enough information on your website to decipher meaning of this nor any remedy appeared to be available.


My problem is multiple:


1 As free update from Windows 7, I lack the disk to perform reinstallation.

2 Worse yet, my CD ROM on the computer has already failed. I would not be able to install from afresh even if I buy a new license which I do not believe I have to.

3 I am using Office 2007. And I am concerned if future Windows update may not allow me to use this old version of Office, which accesses some archive documents that I dearly need to keep. My Office for Mac refuses to read them.


How must I perform update to the later Windows versions so I can continue with what I am doing?

NET HelpMSG2182 Problem with BITS Service

My problem is the same as above, I think. I am not a Tech person but this is what I got on troubleshooting:

Repair Windows Updates stored data

Download data storage has been moved

Type NET HELPMSG2182

On all apps the computer just stops, scrolls on its own, won't scroll, have to reboot to get app to work only to have it stop in another place same app

Windows 10 came preloaded on my PC.

Can someone send me help to my e-mail, don't even know how I got to this screen and I don't want to miss an answer that could help *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

When do you get this error message? Are you trying to perform Windows update or using Microsoft Store?

Please try these options one by one and check after each option.

1. Run Built-in & Guided Walk through Windows Update troubleshooter

Built-in : Windows Key+X > Click Settings > Click Update & security > Click Troubleshoot > Click Windows Update > Click Run the Troubleshooter

3. Windows Key+X > Windows Powershell (Admin)

Type following (or copy and paste following) one by one and Enter

Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver
