Windows 10: Windows 10 Update, Black Screen of Death and 3 beeps

So, for the second time after a windows 10 update on my Dell laptop, I now have a black screen of death. This time it comes along with the 3-beep code. I had started it up just fine yesterday and was even able to open a word document before the screen went black. Now, when you try to turn on the computer, you get three beeps, and no screen. With each update I've had to reinstall most of my drivers, and always have to reinstall the drivers for my memory card reader, usb ports, etc (which is completely ridiculous and inexcusable). Last time it cost me almost $300 to get it fixed (I still don't know what they did to get the display to show). The repair shop wants me to pay them $180 to diagnose and repair it and are already talking about me using my product replacement plan to get a new one, which is total ****. If it's dead, it's dead. I don't need to spend $180 to find that out, plus use the plan.


I have files on there that I didn't get to back up, so I'd really like to get it working again if I can, and after their 'quote', I really don't want to pay them to back the files up for me. Since I've had so many issues with the updates not updating drivers, I'm pretty sure that it's probably something along those lines. Is there some kind of work-around to get the screen back up so I can check for more updates?

Windows 7 black screen of death

I read a report a little while ago that said the black screens were nothing to do with updates but due to a malicious program (it hit more than just windows 7 users - vista, xp and 2000 were also prone to the black startup screen of death if infected). My windows 7 install is fully up-to-date and i've never had the black startup screen.

Just run some decent anti virus and you should be safe (i suggest microsoft security essentails since it's free and pretty decent). When you've installed an anti-virus i'd suggest doing a full scen to be sure there's nothing there.

Installed Windows 10, Now Black Screen and Three Beeps

Hi! I have Dell Inspiron 3520 and I'm also having the same issue - black screen with 3 beeps - everytime I turn on my laptop after upgrading to Windows 10. I was able to boot to bios and back to Windows 10 by reseating my cmos battery and holding f2 while
pushing the power button.. If you still have the 3 beeps, try removing your cmos battery for like 30 minutes before putting it back.. before turning on, press and hold power button for 45 seconds. Then hold f2 and press power button..
