Windows 10: Windows 10 update broke my wifes system. Does not boot. Not even from maintenance partition.

W10 said to me: we have updates, do you want to update now? Sure, why not.

Big mistake. It run for 1.5 hours slowly progressing the update. I worked in another room on another PC! And than it rebooted. It showed yet another blue screen with updating percentage notification, in lower resolution. 10%... 20min later 11%... and so on. A few hours later I found the PC showing a black screen, but when I moved the mouse, showed for a moment a cursor with the "wait circle." After 7hours of waiting I decided to hard reboot. It showed the windows "window" icon, the ugly cyan one, and than it flickered a few times and the PC returned to the same black screen. Goodbye, RIP.


Boot from USB device does not work either. The PC stays hung in the "windows icon," the ugly W10 cyan one.


As I see it, MS owns me a PC repair or even outright a new PC.

Yea, right... They own hundreds of thousands of PC's damaged to nil by broken W10 updates, browse the web.

In fact indeed I have now to get a new hardware and try to restore the user data.

How to go about building a tri-boot system?

i dual boot all the time, and going in to tri boot is easy.

step 1) partition the drive in to 3 partitions ( leaving 1 empty for the linux installer. )
step 2) install windows on the first 2 partitions.
step 3) install linux, and let it auto partition the remaining space. ( i recommend at least 30gb of space for linux, because it will make things a lot easier. )

step 4) enjoy.

I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if the issue persists.

Method 1: Windows has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with system. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your System
Maintenance.

Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key +X, select Control panel.
• Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons.
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel.
• Run the System Maintenance troubleshooter.

Method 2: Place your computer in clean boot state and check if it helps.

Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

For the convenience of not having to use the installation media for startup repairs. But you should be able to use your installation media to do whatever the recovery partition does(including startup repairs). AFAIK. I could be wrong about that though.

I'm not sure if I follow you there. But if you clean install Windows 10 there will be at least 3 partitions.

• (EFI System Partition)
• (Primary Partition)
• (Recovery/OEM Partition)

If you install from an OEM installation media there might(should?) be 4 partitions. Since there might(should?) be a Recovery partition and an OEM partition.
