Windows 10: Windows 10 update cab file Installer.

Hi! I've read and re-read the first message and there is no solution for the case.

 

It gives you a option to DOWNLOAD the 32 or 64 bit Cab Installer.....

 

Both 32-bit and 64-bit "CAB installer" returns the same error when I try to install the .CAB file with Realtek HD audio drivers downloaded from Microsoft site. The error is: "DISM doesn't recognize the command-line option "Semiconductor"".
I assume that CAB installer tries to execute manifest or config file as script.

 

I'm getting the error 0x80070002 here when trying to install Realtek HD Audio Driver; a .cab file with this CAB installer posted here.

Same, I tried to use this little software to extract a driver, completely separately from the update tool you're mentioning this is for.

It's a driver packed in a .cab file. Windows 10 64bit file explorer doesn't allow me to simply copy files from it, or use extract all, it responds with "Access is denied". So I changed all listed file permissions to full access and saved the file and it did NOT help. Tried to extract or unpack or just copy from 7-zip software and it responded with Cannot access file for every single containing file.
Also I unchecked Read Only from file properties for all containing files and folders.

It seems files inside the .cab file have their own permissions that I cannot change.

Anyway I used both versions of your software in this post 32 and 64 bit and I got the same error than godderdam:

How can't it find the file specified when it's right there to choose I have no idea. The path and file name are correct.
I would really love to see this resolved because then I might actually be able to use a device and not toss it away.

UPDATE:
While writing this post, after I've done all the above, I tried to simply extract/expand it with 7-zip to a folder and it worked. Maybe ReadOnly and Permissions did the trick. FucPardonMyFrenchYesItWorks!

 

I wracked my brain for SO DAMNED LONG... why? Because... the clueless would specify the DISM command line arguments OMITTING the fact that you need DOUBLE QUOTES around the package path. The error message would cryptically throw an Error 2, and claim it can't find your package. Tried all kinds of variations, until I found SOMEONE who had a clue, who showed the use of double-quotes.

Therefore, this won't work: DISM /online /add-package /package-path:c:\downloads\package1.cab
But THIS one works: DISM /online /add-package /package-path:"c:\downloads\package1.cab"

Hopefully, anyone else who has started pulling their hair will find this before they go bald and move on with this incredibly frustrating insane world of Microsoft incompetence.

 

well thank you for that and your last line Remove the Windows10.0-KB part from the name since that dot there might be acting as an extension and preventing the file from getting installed , helped me getting it installed

 

I'd say those are three AV engines not to trust anymore because I used this system for about three months with no problems whatsoever. Scan the file directly with whatever antivirus is in your machine. Both ESET and MBAM found nothing when I originally scanned the file. Make sure you are getting it from the link posted up near the beginning of the thread.

 

I am new to poking around the cmd / messing with .cab files... but I am trying to install real tek audio manager to my win10 Lenovo computer...I've ran into a file location error, as I tried to follow Brink's guide... any help would be appreciated, I just wanted to use my headsets mic...

 

For some reason the cab file installer doesn't work with the Realtek files. I posted how I install them in the Realtek HD Audio Drivers thread a while back. Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version
