Windows 10: windows 10 update errors 0xc1900101 and 0xc1900101-0x20017 add to that unable to clean...

Have tried so many resets I am surprised the hard drive is no knackered. Clean boots, disabling drivers, changing system configuration to hide all microsoft services and disabling non microsoft all fail with the same error.

I have tried all the things you are told to do by microsoft in their pages and still get the same error. Lenovo wipe their feet and say its beyond their support when asked. Nothing I have been told by any representative here has worked. The only thing I have yet to try is a clean install of windows 10!

The computer is as follows:

Lenovo Ideacentre 310s-08asr amd a9-9245 radeon r5 compute cores 2c+3G

8Gb Memory

860Gb free on hard drive

Razer Chroma keyboard

Windows Defender used no 3rd party

Result fail to install windows 10 20H2 error 0xc1900101-0x20017


Windows update produces error 0xc1900101. Windows up date via media crearion too whether update now or ISO file and update now both produce error 0xc1900101. Chkdsk on C: drives shows nothing wrong. Computer came with McAfee preinstalled but that was removed and McAfee MCPR program has been run several times.


carried out the sfc /scannow and that reported: Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations


Set secure boot to disabled and moved usbhdd in BIOS to first in boot order


Tried to boot to usb and that failed. It tried to boot to it as the windows logo appears but when the computer tries to start it there is "interference like flicker" and then the computer tries to boot from the hard drive. Then it attempts to boot from usb then back to the HD and continues in a continuous loop. Until usb is removed and the computer boots from the HD normally without problem.

Unable to upgrade one of the system to Windows 10 Update Error 0xC1900101 - 0x20004

Thank you for the reply. I read both of those threads already.

1. Resetting BIOS. I flashed BIOS to the latest version. Currently running default settings. No change.

2. Andre da Costa brings up a list of reasons. For error 0xC1900101-0x20017 he says refer to error 0xc000021a.

2a. Regarding his troubleshooting steps for error 0xc000021a. He says to wipe the drive and switch from NTFS to GPT. This is incorrect. If this was true, then no one could update from Windows 7 to Windows 10 without a clean install. Beyond which, I updated
my first desktop from Windows 7 to Windows 10 when it was running Windows 7 on NTFS.

2b. Regarding his additional troubleshooting steps for error 0xC1900101-0x20017. He has a number of suggestions, such as disabling peripherals. I tried all of these for both .iso and USB installs. No luck.

Any other suggestions?

As i am getting error code 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 but you suggested to refer 0xc1900101-0x40017. Just asking which one is right solution for my
issue ?

I have already tried the steps mentioned for error code 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 but No luck.

I also tried to upgrade through Windows Update but same error.

This thread starts with the same error and indicates how this issue was resolved in some cases. It's not going to be easy, I feel, with no one solution.
Note the same error has occurred with previous build upgrades.
