Windows 10 update failed help BTW: Novice here

I have been waiting for my windows 10 update on my toshiba laptop that is just a year old. It has windows 7 with 64 bits on it. I saw where downloading it to this laptop has failed multiple times. So I created a usb download.

I am afraid now to even attempt to download this since it failed more than once in the updates. Does the failed attempts mean there something wrong with this laptop that will cause me issues to try and use the usb drive?

    It runs perfectly

  2. "Another instance is Running....

    Configuration system failed to initialize"

Every morning this pops up, and mid afternoon I get a hard restart.

Windows 10 just installed, hadn't happened until then.

Ideas? I thank you, btw the less techie talk the better. I'm novice on Windows, mostly use tablets and phones. Thanks!

If you have a good system backup with a cloning software and have it saved on an external Hard Drive then I would go for downloading the media creation tool and creating the USB flash drive install and have a go at it.........

Nothing to loose if you have the current system image saved........besides you most likely have your rescue partition to fall back on if anything does go wrong......

    Nothing ventured------nothing gained........

I have rescue disks win 7 created that I made before ever even searching the web when I bought this laptop. Is that the clone thing you suggest? I did make the usb From the media creation tool already yesterday. Can I just begin or should I do a fresh install before running the windows 10 or will it be ok just to go for it as is. If you suggest a fresh install can I do this from the computer or do I have to use the rescue disks?

I think you have to perform a live upgrade to make it activated, if you kill windows 7 and install windows 10 fresh it will not be activated, or so I have heard, the failure to upgrade in windows update is showing up everywhere, there is a way to download the media creator tool for 64bit or 32bit versions, you would use 64bit, however it does not ask you to image an iso to usb or dvd, atleast on windows 8.1 for me it just allowed me to upgrade right from the program itself and it started the upgrade, no having to boot from usb, my windows 10 on surface pro activated fine this way and kept all my windows 8.1 data intact, for windows 7 I am unsure, and sorry I no longer have the link. at any rate upgrade is what you want to choose if asked

  9. the above comment is right, a windows 7 recovery disk is useless, it only allows you to fix windows, and not even install it fresh, if your system came with recovery media, usually a windows 7 disk and a driver disk you can reinstall windows 7 fresh, if your recovery partition is intact you can install windows 7 fresh again also, but beware ive seen many systems with bad recovery partitions. make sure all your important data and media is stored off computer on porta hard drive or large usb stick. if your pc came with no actual recovery media like so many do now, they are to cheap to include a 50 cent disk, and they put it in a recovery partition and it fails to recover win 7 you'll have to call the manufacturer and order recovery disks they are not usually very expensive, you do not have to repurchase windows 7

I am not liking this at all!!!!!! Especially with MS Money Sunset not working. No matter what i do. I tried to reset the registry as many have said but nothing works. So how do you revert back?

  12. This is WHY so many folks told you to do an image backup -- which I hope you did.

As to reverting, there is a thread on this forum about that (sorry, don't have the link), but it says that it has problems.

Windows 10 update failed help BTW: Novice here

It was easy to go back. Windows update allowed me to simply. My laptop is completely as it was.

Of course it is my opinion but gracious Windows 10 is not attractive as well as horribly slow. Most of my important programs wouldn't work. So I will just stay with 7 for now. Thanks for your help

Actually your pc specs are much better than mine. I was having issues too but managed to get win 10. My question is- do you have the get win 10 notification icon on your taskbar? I performed upgrade rather than clean install. if you have not yet been able to get win 10 and has the icon- send me a msg, will send you a link which helped me.
