Windows 10 update fails to prompt before executing, rebooting

I'd left my computer for about 10 minutes when taking a quick break before a meeting. When I returned, Windows had completely shut down. When I restarted it, I was greeted with a progress indicator on a system update being applied. Meanwhile, I had another 10 minutes until the web conference would be starting. Windows had me captive. And after 10 minutes it was still "working on it." I was late with joining the meeting. Thankfully I wasn't presenting in the beginning, but if I had our client wouldn't have been very happy.

In the past, Windows used to alert me to an update available and give me the choice to install it now or defer it sometime later. That is gone. I am not given any choice. If my laptop goes idle due to non-use, apparently Windows 10 believes it's completely fair game to begin a system update of any magnitude and duration. This is completely unacceptable. I have my "operating time" generously set from 7am to 11pm. But the forced update occurred in the afternoon.

Short of disabling the Windows Update system process, is there any way to configure my system so it won't be possible for Windows to perform an update whenever it wants during business hours?

    :)

Windows 10 Pro 1803 update fails to load

Since trying to update with Windows 10 Pro 1511 /10586 my PC is getting blue screen errors constantly with the code Oxc0000225 (winload.exe).

I have executed the fix at the command prompt as advised by support for the winload.exe problem but still the 1511 update fails consistently and then returns bluescreen errors and reboots itself constantly.

    What now?

Windows 10 Apps in General are broken

Every time a windows app needs to be updated like mail/calendar as an example, the app fails to execute. I go to the store app to search for an app and the store app hangs. I go to settings, windows update & security, search for update, and that hangs.
Is there any solution for all these apps hanging and failing to execute? Before any hardware questions - yes the PC can more than handle windows 10.
