Windows 10: Windows 10 update fails

Windows 10 64 bit Pro 3.4 Ghz 16 meg ram.

When Windows dose the update to 1703 I get the message Update Failed.

Any ideas what the cause may be?

Windows 10 haven't updated to version 1511 --- How to find product key

I haven't run the ISO disk as of yet, I want the current product key in hand, on a post it note, prior to doing that, not interested in MS bullS**T about it not being needed. 2 hours online with tech support and they can't cope with the question of how
can the current product key be accessed in windows 10.

I've never owned a Apple product, but I can never see buying or having another MS product in my household after this.

Even though I have an external device with more than 40 Gb capacity and the assistant recognizes it, it still keeps asking me to free 5 more Gb from the (unit C.

I have 3'62 Gb free memory in (Unit C. It asks me to free 5'63 Gb more. That'll make a total of 9'25 GB. The assistant needs 9'80 GB free memory to update windows 10 without any external device. Does this mean that my external device will only be used
for 0'55 GB? Please I don't understant anything. I just want my laptop to work. I'd stay with my actual version but it keeps showing me ads, interrupting my work and deleting random stuff because of uninterruptible random updates. It has already freed 3 GB
and I dont even know where from.

Upgrade to Windows 10 Windows 10 Installation Upgrade Tutorials

Please see this: - the yellow Tips section and the basic guidance in Here's How.

Advice includes disconnecting any unnecessary peripherals, doing the upgrade after a clean boot, disabling any AV, and any disk other than the system disk.

There are logs which you can try to read and interpret.
Please also post the exact message you received.
Was the upgrade offered by Windows update, or did you try to upgrade manually?

What's the exact error message?

There's a thread per security update in the News section. Please go there, find the update in question and you can read about user experiences of it, and find a link to download it manually.

There are logs which you can try to read and interpret.

Trying to find out why it failed from the Windows update logs is not straightforward. Here are some guides.

This may be useful once you have readable logs as a indication of what to look for. As to accessing them,the info at the start is out of date. See above.

That isn't an update (within a build). That's an upgrade to the current build. Please see my first response.

 

That method worked fine on my laptop running Windows 10 64 bit home.

 

PCs are different - different mix of hardware and software. Some hardware e.g. Broadcom is apparently not compatible with the Creator's build. I assume your desktop and laptop do not have identical hardware and software.

It is not the method- the process you employ that's in question. You need to investigate the logs, follow the guidelines, obtain more information as to what went wrong.
