    Windows 10 Update fails

After being told there is an update to version 1607, I get a message indicating there is an issue and that I should press the "Fix Issue" button. This doesn't fix whatever the issue is, and I subsequently get a message to the effect "We couldn't update the system reserved partition." Is there something an unsophisticated user like myself could do to solve this problem without screwing up my computer? And if so, what?

    :)

  2. Windows 10 haven't updated to version 1511 --- How to find product key

I haven't run the ISO disk as of yet, I want the current product key in hand, on a post it note, prior to doing that, not interested in MS bullS**T about it not being needed. 2 hours online with tech support and they can't cope with the question of how
can the current product key be accessed in windows 10.

I've never owned a Apple product, but I can never see buying or having another MS product in my household after this.

    NOT THE ONLY ONE

  3. How to Install Windows 10 on Devices with Limited Space

Even though I have an external device with more than 40 Gb capacity and the assistant recognizes it, it still keeps asking me to free 5 more Gb from the (unit CWindows 10 Update fails :).

I have 3'62 Gb free memory in (Unit CWindows 10 Update fails :). It asks me to free 5'63 Gb more. That'll make a total of 9'25 GB. The assistant needs 9'80 GB free memory to update windows 10 without any external device. Does this mean that my external device will only be used
for 0'55 GB? Please I don't understant anything. I just want my laptop to work. I'd stay with my actual version but it keeps showing me ads, interrupting my work and deleting random stuff because of uninterruptible random updates. It has already freed 3 GB
and I dont even know where from.

    Thank you.

No sweat. At least I now know how to get to the command prompt. I ran the scan and it responded with "window resources did not find any integrity violation." I guess that's good, but I noticed afterwards that the command prompt read "window\system32" and I have a 64 bit system. Should I repeat the scan with a different prompt?

If not, what do I do next with regard to the original error message, the one regarding the reserved partition?

    Hi again Dencal:
Sorry for lapse in responding. I followed all your instructions and the update seemed to be loading but very Slooowly. Took a few hours to get to even 40%. Checked in the morning and found the download had failed, along with an error code. To make a long story short, I finally called MS to find out what was going on, and a technician loaded Window10 Pro on my PC, replacing "Home," and it seems to be working although the version reads 1511 instead of 1607 which was the latest version in "Home." Not sure whether 1511 is the latest iteration for Pro, but at least seems to be working for the time being. If there is 2016 version for Pro, I suspect I will get a notification from MS letting me know. In any case, thanks for all your help and have a good weekend.

    Hi zalman.
Hopefully you don't have any more problems, To find out what version you have installed type winver in the Cortana box. see my attachment below for latest.

Two things for you to check....open All Settings and check for Updates as in my last post attachment #6.
Also look further down on same Attachment...... click on Activation to verify it is genuine and activated.

    Hi again Dencal:
Thought I'd bring you up to date as to the catch-22 situation I find myself in just to provide some closure even though I don't expect you to do anything about it. You've spent enough time trying to unravel my dilemma and I really appreciate your efforts. However, I suspect it's time to abandon ship.

Anyway, I was still have difficulty updating, so I called MS, and a technician ending up taking control of my PC and installing Window10 Pro (it previously was operating under the Home version). I followed your instructions and went to the version screen and it indicated not only that the edition was now indeed Pro, but that the user name was Shelly (that's me) and the Org. was Hewlett-Packard (my PC). So far, so good. But the Activation screen wanted the Key in order to update to ver 1607 and I didn't have it. Called MS and they didn't have it -- or wouldn't give it to me. Instead they suggested I enter the old Windows7 key. Of course I didn't have it and HP wanted upwards of $60 to go looking for it with no guarantee they could find it.

Bottom line is I think I'll stick with the 1511 ver of Pro and live with it without really knowing what I'm missing. Once again, thanks again for your help in trying to make my way through this particular PC labyrinth.

    Best wishes, Shelly

    Hi Shelly.
Try this link....if it asks for a key just ignore it and carry on with the update.
If this fails we can then do a fool proof installation but try this one first.
and really its a pleasure to help.

    Windows 10 Update fails

    Dencal:
Still no cigar. The download got to 75% but then punked out. Got message: "something went wrong -- contact MS" along with an error code. Incidentally, I finally did locate the key that came with my machine (originally loaded with Windows7) which MS said should work, but I tried it and it didn't. I wonder whether it might have done the trick had they not changed the OS on my machine from Home to Pro. I guess I could ask them to change it back but I have a feeling that would just be spinning wheels.
I'd like to try your fool proof installation as a last resort and, if that doesn't work, I guess I'll live with the Unactivated Pro version that currently is on my PC.

    Thanks again for your patience.

Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool.
Click on highlighted + to expand and read instructions before clicking on download tool.
When installed open Downloads, Right click on it and select Mount
When it asks for key ignore and just carry on following instructions.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong but I can't seem to locate the "Mount" option. I downloaded the Media Creation Tool but when I right click on the downloaded file, Mount doesn't show up.
