Windows 10: Windows 10 Update fails

What options are showing?....But first try double clicking with left click to see what happens.

 

LEFT CLICK: Allow chgs to this PC>license aggreement>upgrade this PC) ( I say Yes)> Progress % (which runs interminably, then usually fails)
RIGHT CLICK: THE usual stuff >> Open>pin>share with MS Defender>Cut>Copy>Rename> Properties.
"Mount" nowhere to be seen.

To tell the truth, I'm about to give up. Both you and I have spent enuf time on this fruitless quest. The positive thing is that the faint greyed out message in the lower right hand corner of the desktop indicating my version of Windows isn't activated seems to have disappeared...although checking the Secuity settings indicates nothing has changed. I'm resigned to living with version 1511 of Pro; it probably isn't the most terrible thing in the world given that I'm not a power user.

Once again, thanks for your patience and expertise but I think it's time to raise the surrender flag.

P.S. Once I "recuperate" from this frustrating excursion, I may contact MS to let them know their advice re using my original key was useless.

 

Shelly when you say fails do you receive a message? the reason I ask, it can take an hour to install and sometimes the screen goes blank.
I only posted the link an hour ago.

 

Not sure my message was sent, but I'll run the update one more time bearing in mind your advice to be patient . But I was patient on two previous occasions. Once I ran the update overnight before it failed and another time 4-5 hours. I must confess I'm getting tired of those annoying error messages.

Sorry not to have responded in such a while, but some non- computer concerns needed attention and I had to put my Windows 10 issue on the back burner for a while. In any case, the problem has been resolved. I'm a retired college prof and, although I no longer teach, the IT people in my former dept often help ex-faculty with computer related problems. This meant dragging my desktop PC to the university which I initially resisted -- I'm 81 and not as chipper or as strong as I used to be -- but I finally gave in.

The problem, it turned out, was multifaceted. It turned out that the techs at Microsoft remotely installed Win10 Proin addition to Win 10 Home so that the machine had two OS loaded on it. I'm not sure why Pro didn't override Home, but I think their instruction to use the Windows 7 key that originally came with the machine was just plain wrong. Apparently there also wasn't enough room on the reserve partition -- whatever that is -- to allow proper installation of the upgrade, so the techs in my department enlarged it. If you recall, the first error message I received when trying to upgrade Windows 10 has something to do with this partition

I'm sure you understand all this better than I do but the bottom line is that I now have the newest edition of Windows 10 Enterprise on my machine and everything is working fine.
