Windows 10: Windows 10 Update: Intel HD 4000 Driver Black Screens

Windows update keeps attempting to install a driver update for the HD 4000 integrated gpu. I have a discrete graphics card and don't use the iGPU at all, but this update just started showing up. It always fails, and it always makes my monitor lose the signal as soon as windows loads. The only way to fix it is a system restore, but then the driver just tries to reinstall as soon as the computer is idle or when it restarts. I attempted to hide the update, but it doesn't show up in the list. I've disabled the device, but it just reappears. Is there any way to force windows to stop attempting the update?

Intel HD 4000 Drivers cause black screen in Windows, and hardware crashes

I was able to get the HD 4000 drivers installed again using the Toshiba drivers with Windows 8 compatibility mode. The screen went black. I booted into troubleshooting, then to safe mode. I was able to follow the procedure to update the 64 bit intel drivers
you mentioned as the HD 4000 was then showing in Device Manager. Booting into Windows however after the required re-start, I was greeted by a black screen....

As of now, uninstalled all other drivers and back to MS Basic Display driver as that is the only stable thing. If intel HD 4000 or VGA Compatible Controller shows up in the device manager, I know the screen will go black. When MS Basic Display comes up detected
finally after uninstalling again, it works. Guess I might be stuck with this!

My computer is ready for windows 10 update, its reserved. But it gave me a message saying my intel hd graphics 4000 driver is not compatible. There is no windows 10 drivers on Intels site. Will microsoft give an updated driver for intel hd graphics 4000

I wonder if you can disabled the integrated graphics in the bios settings? If you do this then Windows should stop trying to load a driver for it.

I was not able to stop Windows 10 from updating the driver. I followed all the instructions I found here on the site to keep it from installing automatically, including the registry edit, and I also used the recommended utility to hide the offending update. That held it at bay for a few days, but it finally forced the installation again (while I was playing a game, no less).

I removed my discrete GPU, reset the bios, and managed to get into Windows with the iGPU plugged into my monitor. I verified the installation was working, then shut down and reinstalled my GPU. I tried this process before, but without resetting the bios. This time I made it into windows with the discrete GPU installed and everything seems to be working correctly. Not sure why it didn't work the first time I attempted it, but I'm hoping this state holds. I'm also unsure why the troubleshooter that disables the update seemed incapable of doing so. It kept claiming it was "fixed", but the update persisted.
