  1. Windows 10 update issues.... do I need to worry?

    I have Win 10 Enterprise 64bit.

Off late since past 2 weeks I have observed my windows only updates Windows defender definitions and its not at all updating any security or essential KB updates.

Just now googled and I was shock to found many new updates were out such as KB4088787, KB4089848 etc. https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/4043454

I'm not sure if they are eligible to Enterprise editions or not but m curious as to what might be wrong.

Do I need to worry or its alright ??

Refer to pic of my updates for deep insight

    Hey there.

You have Enterprise version, are you part of a corporation that could be controlling?

Do you, either deliberate or unknowingly have updates deferred? (Start => Settings => Updates and security => on right, at bottom => Advance Options

Any chance "Metered Connections" are enabled. Doesn't really make sense as you are getting updates but I have to ask.

Since your version seems to be current to January 2018 can you think of things you may have installed since then, new antivirus, new privacy tools, VPN's.

On the subject of AV's, since your machine is updated up to the point where Meltdown and Spectre were announced, there were some notices that MS would not update machines until the AV's declared they weren't performing undocumented protection. You mentioned Windows Defender but are any other AV products installed.

I also recall something about AMD and these exploits. Are you on an AMD platform?

  5. No antivirus, vpn or such products installed. NO metered connections enabled. This is my home computer no corporate or domain.
    Intel platform hardware.
    No deferred issues.

Only thing is windows is constantly updating only defender definitions and no security or cumulative updates.

I heard enterprise version get less updates compared to professional hows that true?

Also all update services running automatic and good.update services running automatic and good.

  6. Have you tried the Update trouble shooter?

Start => Settings => Updates and security => Troubleshoot => on the right => Windows Update

Something keeps bringing me back to the updates / fix and patches surrounding Meltdown and Spectre. I will see if I can find anything on Google.

I'm Sr. IT analysts and I work from home as my company is located into another town and their provided laptop is under repairs at the service centers. I work via usual vpn. We have certain privileges to use companies msdn license at home of course for office purpose and have certain in-house applications only supposed to work on Enterprise editions so thats how its all setup.

Check this article from Beeping Computer. It deals with the QualityCompat key that is set by your AV and that includes MS Windows Defender. I have Norton on one system and it sets the key after a definition update. I found that if the key is missing that WU will not offer cumulative updates. On my laptop I run Windows Defender and it use to set the key but doesn't anymore. So I used the reg file from Beeping Computer to set the key and then I get all the updates.

Other people are also seen this problem with the key.

    May be worth a try.

  11. Maybe force the issue. Download the latest cumulative and manually install.

I would have an Image of system before I tried this.

  14. We should not confuse Windows patches with closing these gaps.

When you started thread you had January updates and were not receiving updates. Are you know at 16299.334 in terms of Windows?
