Windows 10: windows 10 update issues - will not restart

HI, I am updating a friends computer, and after installing the windows 10 1803 update, after the restart it comes up with a black screen and a blue rotating 'doughnut'. It does not appear to be able to respond to any keystrokes. It had been doing the restart for about 14 hours (overnight) before I attempted anything. Can you advise please?

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP

keep in mind, as of recently, the FCU is installed on 5% of devices roughly.....

 

Hard drive/ OS issue

• shutdown
• unhooked HDD
• restarted

Windows 10 fails to update


When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.
