Windows 10 Update kills Laptop's ability to charge battery and run at all

    ASUS Laptop S400C

    ~5 years old

    Running Windows 10, version 1803

    Hi all,

I am experiencing debilitating power source issues following a Windows update. I know it's an update problem, as I've gone through other trouble shooting and have actually experienced this problem twice.

On Friday September 14, I processed the update (A Windows Security Update, is all the info I can give right now) and experienced a power issues, but managed to keep my laptop on long enough to complete a system restore to the previous edition. On Sunday September 16, I had an issue with my wireless driver and underwent a restart (which included installing the update again), and am now completely unable to keep my laptop turned on.

Following each installation of the update the battery drained within minutes, even when plugged into a power source. The laptop is unable to even complete a start up now, despite being plugged into a power source and having charged for the past 10 hours. I have experienced this failure each time the update was installed, and did not experience the problem before installation or after my system restore Saturday September 15.

I've already read a dozen other posts, including basic trouble shooting. These don't work for me, and in any case, I can't keep my PC on long enough to engage Safe Mode or a system restore a second time, and those are hardly fixes.

What can I do? I am really irritated at the thought of a Windows Update bricking a PC I've owned for 5 years, one which worked fine until these updates. I can't find any information online, just that other people experience the problem too.

    :)

Will leaving a laptop plugged in kill the battery?

I have a laptop (Compaq/HP Pesario C500) and I am running WCG on it. The battery can drain quite quickly, so I would like to leave it plugged in so it can crunch while I'm not there to attend to it. I was wondering if leaving it plugged in would kill the battery? Deminish it's ability to hold a charge? Maybe even cause problems like fire like the sony batteries did?

only way to not overcharge your battery is by removing it off the laptop, when its fully charge i would turn your laptop off and remove the battery that way you can reserve your battery if you ever take it out somewhere.
The laptop can keep running as long as you keep the power connector in the laptop

Windows 10 Update kills Laptop's ability to charge battery and run at all

    New battery not charging

I have an Acer Aspire V3-771 laptop (which is three and a half years old) with its original battery. As the battery is not holding the charge for as long as it used to I decided to replace it. I inserted he new battery, which already showed a charge of 60%, and let it run down to the point when the laptop turned itself off. However, when I tried to recharge the battery, the battery icon showed "6% available, plugged in, not charging". I contacted the supplier of the battery and they sent me a new one. This showed an initial charge of 93% so, in view of my problem with the previous battery, I decided to try and charge it up to full capacity before letting it run down. But as soon as I tried this the battery icon showed "93% available, plugged in, not charging". So I unplugged the charger and again let the battery run down until the computer turned itself off. I plugged the charger in again but then got "6% available, plugged in, not charging". I have no problem charging the old battery, so can anyone please suggest what the problem might be? I have tried taking out the battery and unplugging the charger and holding down the power button for 30 seconds, but this hasn't worked. Grateful for any advice.
