Windows 10: Windows 10 Update Kills My Laptop Every Month

So as the title explains, it's that time of the month again when Windows 10 update wreaks total havoc on my PC and makes it completely non functional. I might also add it does this when I'm in the middle of doing something at times I've set it not to update.


Now it's 3 updates for March and the bigger Windows 10 Feature update. Is this feature update going to fix these problems or just make them worse?


I was running version 1803 and changed to version 1903, which seeemd to fix things. However after a short time Windows Update began it's usual behaviour, of being completely unfit for purpose.


In further addition since I got this laptop from new, every now and again the audio goes like a dalek sound in slow motion, then Windows tells me I've unplugged a headphone jack when I haven't, then get the BSOD with API_MISMATCH_INDEX and an unplanned restart to resolve it.


Any ideas to fix that particular problem or would I be best to just chuck this laptop and get a MAC, or wipe it with linux.


If I had an option to just not let Windows 10 Update do it's thing, you bet I'd have it set. I guess why you don't give your consumers that option.

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.

• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
