Windows 10: Windows 10 update - left my PC useless

Dear Microsoft


I upgraded to Windows 10 sometime ago and on and off had a few problems when updates happened - usually the Edge not working and then the next update would happen and the Edge would work.


Back in late May early June a Windows 10 update message happened and warned me it would take a while. No problem I thought.


Since then my PC is useless. The drivers to the mouse, USB ports and CD drives don't work. My start up screen gets stuck on the choose your keyboard layout". I can't use a back up disc because the drives doesn't work and the last back up wouldn't save, the PC came pre-loaded with Windows 7 so I don't have disc for that.


I cannot begin to tell you how stressful this has been - I have looked at every fix available on the internet and you website and none of them work.


Please help.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.

 

HyperSLI (Enabling SLI on non-sli motherboards)

To turn off windows updates in windows 7 follow these steps:

Click the start button, in the search box type in 'windows updates', click on 'windows update'
in the search results list, in the left side of the windows update window click 'change settings'
then in the option bar select 'Never check for updates'.
