Windows 10: Windows 10 update stuck. unable to access safe mode

Hi, my kids laptop instructed that I should update windows 10 version. I followed all the instructions and now the computer is stuck on a never ending loop of starting, indicating that it is 'undoing changes made to my computer', shutting down and starting again. One post i read suggested that i just need to leave the computer to complete the update - i left it on for three and a half days straight. My kids have had to request their homework to be printed as they are unable to access the computer....


I have searched and searched for a simple answer for how to fix this. It appears that many are having the same problem. The MVP 'fixes' I have read however all appear to be based around getting the computer to start in safe mode but i am unable to get to this point by any of the methods suggested. The laptop is a basic HP around about 1.5 to 2 years old. As far as I am aware there was plenty of disk space available for the update. It has microsoft office/365 loaded and very very little else. There are some photos. I would like to secure but am pretty sure i have backed up so a nice to have rather than need to have.....


Please treat me as an idiot/computer illiterate in talking me through any suggested fixes..

Stuck in safe mode in windows 10

Safe mode is intended to help fix most, if not all problems within an operating system, it's not good if we got stuck on it. To correct this, we suggest that you follow the steps below to exit out of Safe mode:

• Open Run command by pressing Windows key + R
  keys on the keyboard and type msconfig in the command box and press
  Enter.
• Under General tab, put a check on Normal Startup option.
• Reboot the system and check if the changes are effective.

Let us know if you are able to exit out of Safe mode with these steps.

 

Boot into Safe Mode on Windows 10  


I am stuck in Safe Mode in spite of following all the suggested steps to go back to Normal Startup - Like opening file location of msconfig.exe & running as Administrator. The computer I am trying to get out of safe mode has just been updated from Windows 7.
