Windows 10: Windows 10 Update to 1903 or 1909, immersive control panel crashes, night mode not working

Hi,


When I try updating from 1809 to 1903 as well as to 1909, the control panel crashes after some clicks.

Additionally I can't activate the night mode (all related buttons are greyed out and deactivated).


The event log of 1903 and 1909 showed that the immersive control panel crashed with some .dll error.

It's rather unusable - if I open the display settings or any other control setting, after some clicks

and/ or scrolling the control panel crashes again (the error code in the event log varies).


I have a Radeon RX 470 (driver software version 19.9.2) with two monitors attached to it and an

Asus Z170 Pro Gaming Mainboard (latest bios version).


I returned to 1809 for now, but I'm eager to update to 1909 as soon as possible.


Anyone experiencing the same and/or any hints how to solve this issue?

MY IMMERSIVE CONTROL PANEL I,E, PC SETTINGS STOPS WORKING AND SHOWS ERROR THAT REMOTE PROCEDURE CALL FAILED.

ITS LOCATION IS USER....APPDATA.....PACKAGES.....IMMERSIVE CONTROL PANEL.

  Did you make any changes on the computer prior to the issue?
  

Method 1: Run SFC scan

I suggest you to perform SFC scan and check if that helps. The
sfc/scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files


Note: Applies to Windows 10 as well.

Note: System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

If issue still persists I would suggest you to create a new user account and check if it helps in resolving the issue.

Method 2: Create new user account

Try these steps to create a new user account and check if it fixes the issue. Refer to the steps below to create a new User Account:

• 
  Go to Settings.
  
• 
  Choose Accounts
  and then select Other User Accounts towards the left.
  
• 
  Select Add an Account.
  
• 
  Enter a user name and hit Next.
  
• 
  Click on Finish.
  
• 
  Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.
  
• 
  Check if issue persists.

2. What is the build version of Windows 10 you are using?
   

I suggest you to follow the below method, and check if that helps.

Method 1: Perform SFC Scan.

Sfc Scan will inspect all of the important Windows files on your computer, including Windows DLL files. If System File Checker finds an issue with any of these protected files, it will replace it.

1. Click on search box and type CMD.
2. Right click on command, launch Command Prompt as administrator in Windows 10.
3. Then type Sfc /scannow
4. System File Checker will now verify the integrity of every protected operating system file on your computer. It might take quite a while to finish.
   
5. Once the verification reaches 100%, restart the PC and check if that helps.

Method 2: Re-register the Immersive Control Panel on PowerShell command.

1. Click on search box and type in PowerShell.
2. Right-click on Windows PowerShell icon and select
   Run as Administrator.
3. Copy/ paste this command on PowerShell: PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage *immersivecontrolpanel*).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode
   -Register $manifest}"
4. Restart the PC, and check if that helps.
