Windows 10: Windows 10 Update (Version 1803 OS 17134.165)

Hi all,


I've been out the loop with computers for quite a few years, and therefore windows.


Firstly, can someone confirm Version 1803 OS 17134.165 is a stable/full release? Not some insider update?



Secondly, this update is absolutely recking my laptop:


Programs won't start

Steam won't connect despite browsing being fine

Task manager has no icons next to each running process

'Processes' tab CPU is @ 100% but no single process is above 0%, memory usage is ~15%

'Performance' tab CPU is at 0% utilization, memory on the small graphs on the left show 0 usage but on actually clicking on memory it shows it all in use and 0 available

Restart hangs indefinitely, on one occasion it has given me a 'Driver Power State Failure'

Impossible to be boot to safe mode using multiple methods (trying from Restart+Shift gives me a black screen after selecting any option)

System restore does not work

System does not resume from sleep


The only way I have managed to remedy this (thankfully), is running chkdsk /x /f /r. This seems to resolve the issue. After the first time I rolled back the version using system restore. I barely used my laptop before Windows wanted to update again, the issue is back immediately. Why is this update corrupting sectors on my SSD? I've never had an issue with my laptop, in any capacity, before this update.


While things are working okay now, and they may continue to be okay, I don't think a system should be responding to an update like this.


Have there been many reported problems with this update?

Next Major Windows 10 Update Named "Spring Creators Update"

The next Windows 10 service pack major update has been named "Spring Creators Update." Windows Insider Program users toying with Build 17618 of the operating system spotted a listing of all the major updates of Windows 10 known to the build, when running "Get-VMHostSupportedVersion" in Power Shell. The last entry reads "Microsoft Windows 10 Spring Creators Update 1803." The version number (1803 in this case), often coincides with the public release date of the update. The Fall Creators Update 1709, released in 2017-09 (September) to Insiders. Going by that convenion, Spring Creators Update could see a "branded" Insider preview build this month, 2018-03 (March), with a public release usually 3-4 weeks after, presumably before Summer kicks in.

The Windows Welcome experience will only be shown after installation of updates and occasionally when you sign in to highlight what's new and suggested by design. For more information about the new features and content of Windows 10 1803, please refer to

Also, make sure that the Windows welcome experience is enabled on your PC. Follow the steps below:

• Open Settings > System > Notifications & actions.
• Under Notifications, toggle the switch On "Show me the Windows welcome experience after updates and occasionally when I sign in to highlight what's new and suggested".
