Windows 10: windows 10 update wrecked my PC

I installed the latest windows 10 upgrade yesterday and it was a disaster



When I did the restart – I could not logon to the PC – I kept getting an error message that it could not find my user profile.



I tried both password and pin – neither worked. I tried changing my password but that did not work either



Finally, after 3 restarts, I was able to log onto my PC – and that’s when the real trouble started



Outlook was blank, like it was a brand new setup



My browser default was reset to Microsoft edge



When I brought up Google, my browsing history was gone and all of my bookmarks were also gone



All of the apps that I had pinned to the task bar were missing – I had to pin them back to the taskbar



The upgrade turned off my wi-fi so I had to turn that back on to get an internet connection



McAfee was disabled so I had to reset the account



I contacted Dell chat support and after 2.5 hours we were finally able to get my email back – we also had to re-install office 365

We were not able to do a recover and I am still finding other issues with the update - for example, if I open Word, none of the documents that I accessed recently are showing in the list. All of my remote desktop connections are missing, all of my Oracle pl/sl developer connection are missing. It's like everything related to my user profile was wiped out. Dell support uninstalled the update but it did not seem to change anything. The PC is still behaving like the update is still installed even after a couple of restarts. Any way to get back to what my PC was like before I did the update?

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.
