Windows 10: windows 10 update

I have a toshiba laptop equium with windows 10 version 1511. Microsoft/Windows keeps reminding me that this version need updating. the laptop will not boot from USB.

So -- I have been trying to update it for some time now (over a year) and it keeps failing, with the following note:-


0xC1900101 - 0x20017

The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation.


The media I have been using are DVDs created via windows media creation tool. the latest one is the 2018 December version of the update DVD, made from an ISO file created by the windows media tool. (The laptop will not boot from USB.)


After months of occasionally trying to accomplish this update I decided to try another method.

I removed the current HDD and installed a newly formatted, HDD in the laptop, and booted using the F12 key, but the DVD gets to the initial windows logo but then nothing happens, the DVD operating LED flashes rapidly but nothing else happens? I have been trying this for some time now and finally decided I need help.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
