Windows 10: Windows 10 Update

I delayed downloading the Windows 10 update on my Lenovo laptop for at least a year, but when I finally began the download a few months ago, my computer got stuck at the startup screen for almost 48 hours before I decided to restart the computer and try again. This only made it worse with the laptop caught in a loop where it loaded the startup screen and shut down again over and over. Eventually, I decided to try to stop the loop by accessing the BIOS settings, and I somehow managed to get to the login screen. However, when I log in, the screen says "Preparing Windows..." but never moves from that screen unless I hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete and then click Cancel. After that, the entire screen is black and the toolbar is also missing. The only way I could even get to the internet is by hitting Ctrl+Alt+Delete again, clicking Task Manager, using that to open Explorer, and then finding the application file for Internet Explorer and clicking on that to open it. I am not sure what I can do to fix this. I am not even sure what went wrong in the first place. Any insight into this matter would be greatly appreciated as this is the only computer I currently own.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
