  1. Windows 10 update

An update on my desktop, from Windows 10 version 1809, failed. There is just a black screen with a flashing cursor. I went through help with Microsoft agents from my laptop. Created Media Creation Tool on usb. Used it to reboot my desktop. Went through the full sequence of steps, only to arrive at this message:

"The upgrade option isn't available if you start your computer using onstallation media. If a copy of windows is already installed on this computer and you want to upgrade, remove the installation media and retart your computer. After Windows has started normally, insert the installation media and run Windows setup."

The spelling errors aren't mine; they are as they appeared in the onscreen text. The only option offered after that was "Close".

The Microsoft agents gave up at this point, saying my only option is a clean install. I just can't accept that, but I don't know what to do next.

There is no malware on the desktop. I use Norton 360 premium, and I was able to run a fixme stick full system scan, which found no malware. Fixme stick did show a screen message saying Windows did not shut down properly.

I was able to run diagnostics at startup, are there are no hardware problems.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
