If you are running the pro version, there is an option to defer upgrades.

  5. Defer upgrades doesn't stop updates from installing. It just delays the install of new features.

  7. Hopefully some of these embarassments will make MS see sense and restore control of updates back to the users at some point. The Windows 7 method of delivering updates was perfect. Users could do them at their own leisure

Settings > Update & security > Windows update > Advanced options > Chose how updates are installed > set to "Notify to schedule restart".

Ever since build 1511 I have not been abrupted by Windows Update. If there's an update available to be installed it will do it automatically when I turn off and on the computer before I go to bed. It also helps that I check regularly for potential updates in the update section, and I usually read up on new updates when they come out on the interwebs.*Smile

  10. I guess you have the best idea to regulary check for updates which would probably avoid this potentially irritating thing. I'm not 100% sure but I think Windows 10 auto checks for updates every 24 hours, so as long as you manually check yourself it may kind of reset the timer. If an update gets found, then install and restart straight away. Then at least you know you aren't going to be bothered again during a gaming session or something like that. I'm probably over pedantic but everytime I boot my machine up I go through a routine of manually checking for updates in the main updates section, checking manually for office 365 updates and finally checking for app updates on the store. Of course the main windows updates shouldn't really bother you other than on a Tuesday and even then it's mostly the second Tuesday of the month but MS does occasionally like to throw a spanner in the works and release an update at a completely unexpected time

    Ahh the masses ...

This has already been addressed and will be part of the anniversary update, if not sooner.

Anyone on the latest insider build can tell you (14332, like .... ME! *Smile )

You can set active hours for non-restarting of the PC to complete updates, as well as the aforementioned defer.

If on active hours, updates may download and install, but it will not restart automatically.

In the case of the streamer, he would get a toast notification (if set) that a restart is needed to complete, but if ignored would go away, certainly better than a auto restart, but what people want is zero interruptions, so I suspect that might get a toggle similar to not showing notifications while presenting ...

Of course, knowing the behavior of 10 lately, I'd rather chastise the streamer for not checking that his streaming PC may need to complete an update prior to streaming to his many followers in the first place ... Just MO ...

Ideally there would be a setting to allow updates to be checked for, downloaded and installed only during certain time periods. Heavy computer users don't want the slowdown that occurs when the update installs, period. Then if the computer was not available during that time period, such as powered off, a pop-up would appear on the next boot stating that the update period was missed and what should be the next action to take?
