Windows 10 Updates - Messes up my USB Audio Codecs and I can't recover things?

Yesterday windows 10 updates were installed on my pc. I can't switch that activity off anymore, but this is the third time I have had supdates come down and wreck the operation of my pc and force a complete wipe and reinstall of windows. So I am to say the least rather hacked off.

    To describe the situation:

The PC is a new HP pavilion i5 laptop running windows 10 not pro. It has the normal Realtek audio hardware that most laptops have.

I use it for amateur radio communications and to do this a lot of transceivers have effectively a built in sound card and serial port that works over a USB connection. The serial comms make use of Silicon Labs uart drivers but the audio, appears to use what I think I haven't found a way to check are generic MS USB Audio codec drivers of some kind.

Once the transceiver is connected the device would initially show up in the Settings/Devices/Sound Control panel as 'Speakers USB Audio Codec' on the 'playback' tab for output and 'Microphone USB Audio Codec' on the 'recording' tab for input. Once plugged in it WAS then possible to use the 'Properties' and change their names to something more meaningful. eg. 'Kenwood TS590SG to PC' and 'PC to Kenwood TS590SG'.

If different USB ports are used to connect the transceiver, then this has to be done again for each port so names can be extended to indicate the USB port in use.

Along come the latest windows 10 update and wham those settings are all messed up and software that used those devices no longer works.

A hunt through the registry for the audio codec settings is a complete and utter mystery trip. Searching for entries with the find 'TS590' finds some stuff but what is presented is gibberish and not readily restored to pre update.... please don't suggest the restore function roll backto previous date as it doesn't work. Instead the only way to restore required taking absolutely everything off the pc, all programs, data etc. and then do a complete reset of everything. This takes a long time and ALL BECAUSE OF MS Windows Update and the fact that MS refuse to let us switch it off.

Is there any MS windows guru out there that know how to restore the settings without having to take such drastic action. I am at my wits end with windows 10 as tis has happened 3 time in 3 months and right now you'll have to understand that I totally hate windows 10.

Any advice other than as stated above restore to earlier date because that doesn't fix the registry entries appreciated.

    Thank you.

    :)

    USB Audio Codec Fails

I have a PCM2901 USB Audio Codec. After a few minutes it stops sending audio data to the application. Fails with multiple applications. I can recover the Codec by using Device Manager to Uninstall the Codec and reboot. A plain reboot does not recover the
Codec. Device Manager always shows that the Codec is working properly.

It fails on two PCs that are running Windows 10 Home 64 bit. The Codec will run for days on an old Vista PC so the problem seem related to Windows 10.

    Suggestions appreciated.
